Hello world!

I'm sure this is a stupid question... but I've been in my car with a volt-meter for 1 hour, and googling for 2!

I removed the original radio, and tried to replace it with a newer radio from my ( now scrapped ) polo.

The newer radio has a different socket type at the back.. but hey, no problem, it came with an adapter.

One half of the adapter has all the speaker wires.. and the other half, the power. the pins were in the wrong positions for some of the pins... but i have some pliers... so no problem there.. i just need to know where to move them to..

so... time to whip out the trusty volt meter.

I have 3 wires to figure out... ( ground is obvious )
the 3 unknows should be bat+ / vcc+ and remote.

one wire shows +12 volts ( regardless of ignition )
tha must be the battery... one of the other wires varies rapidly, between 4 and 5 volts.. regardless of ignition state. and the other wire varies rapidly between 0.4 and 0.6 volts.. again regardless of ignition state!

I was expecting one to be +12v ( always on )
one to be +12v ( only when ignition key is turned )
and signal to be 0.. ( or close to zero )

Whats going on !?

I gave it a few guesses, and none of my spare car radios would power on, with all possible wiring configurations.

all fuses are good!

And all my spare radios are tested and working fine in my boyfriends car!

I guess the grande punto's radio is completely non-standard !?

is there any hope?
some secret 3rd adapter i need ?

THX and sorry for being soo damn blonde!

is it a 2 stage or 3 stage ignition.
if only a 2 stage then ya need to wire the radios 2 +12v to the bat 12v. you should find on the radios wiring 2 wires both with a single male connector but one with a double female connector for this very purpose. if not then ya need to rewire to the batt supply.I had same issue on my stilo

its nothing to do with the ignition type......

The GP's electrical system are controled by the CAN BUS network there are 2 CAN inputs to the GP's head unit (high and low) along with the constant live supply the can network tells the head unit the ignition is on and away it goes,.....

DO NOT try and splice into the can wires if you shove a back fed voltage down them you can kill the body computer which costs a lot of £££'s

you need to fetch a switched ignition feed up from the back of the fag lighter (red wire)

off the top of my head you need to splice that into the orange / yellow wire onto your adaptor the red already there is the constant supply

Aye that's it. Mine had the flip head unit which totally screwed it. If it didn't I believe if you don't wire it properly it stays on all the time and runs the battery flat...
