Been a long time since i came on here, over 3 years, since i sold my punto and havent had the chance to come back on here but now im back lol.

Thinking of moving back to fiat for the time being, something has attracted me to the 1.4 tjet gp . After selling the 1.2 punto in i ownered a polo gti 6n2 for over 2 years, and in june this year i purchased a 1.8 leon cupra 180 ps.

Working as a support worker i visit clients around birmingham and driving a 1.8t around town is very practical lol. So im thinking of downgrading on the engine size but still want a bit of poke and been recently looking into gp's in 1.4 t jet engines.

They seem to be pretty good cars from what ive read, but still have read some issues with steering rack.

Would be great if i gcould get some info off you guys who own or have owned a tjet gp and how is it like in terms or performance, running costs and practicality?

thanks ;D

Overall its a very good car mate. Average 35mpg, quicker than most people think, it suprises me what i can keep up with sometimes haha. Ive got the 5dr tjet, with being a chef in a busy restaurant i go to the local farm shop once a week and can fit a weekends worth of vegetables and sacks of potatoes in no problem. Big thumbs up!

I love my t-jet, owned it for 8 months now and no issues with it so far!

I went from a 1.2 corsa c to a T-Jet, a brilliant step up, in town you can expect around 30mpg and you could squeeze 40mpg out of it elsewhere but my average is always around 32mpg, i am quite a heavy footed driver though, depends how you want to drive. Highest iv'e had was 52.9mpg! and the lowest being 22mpg! (y)

I had a 1.4 16v clio before i got the tjet. 30bhp more was a nice treat haha. I hover between 34 -35 mpg, it will drop considerably if u floor it everywher though lol. The highest ive had was 54mpg on a 5 hour motorway journey.

54mpg! damn it I though 52.9mpg was a lot! when i test drove my car it was reading 60mpg!? dont even know how thats possible haha

Haha it didnt stay at 54 for long, got sick of sittin behind lorries so i floored it n watched all my hard work dissapear lol. 60mpg!? From a tjet!? Jesus lol.

Yeah I didnt believe it, specially as the drivers headrest was covered in a grimey layer of the previous owners hair gel :yuck: lol so couldnt have been a oap, must have just been an incredibly eco driver!

The t-jet is good but as I'm sure you are aware it wouldn't see which way your Leon with 180bhp went. Its a nippy warm hatch rather than a hot hatch. There is plenty of torque in the low to mid range but the tiny turbo does run out of puff at higher revs. I'd say it was quicker off the line but no faster on the open road than my previous couple of diesels (2.2 hdi 406 coupe and a 2.0 hdi 407). I get about 37-40mpg on a long run and low 30s around town, the low gearing does mean that revs are a touch high at motorway speeds.

GREAT replies,

i agree nothing compared to the cupra but i think its the way to go, i hardly floor it on the cupra around town, too dangerous , and mpg isnt too bad if i cant hit around 45 mpg on motorway id be happy lol

and yea it would have been better on a 6 speed but oh well,

will be listing my cupra on pistonheads soon so will start looking for a gp, is there a thread on here showing common issues on gp's?

cheers
