So the large metal plate fastened to the rockercover in front of the oil cap with a wire running to it, is the solenoid ?

Im goin to test the solenoid this weekend hopefully. I've read in another post that if you disconnect the electrical connection to the solenoid and apply a voltage to it with the engine on tick over there should be a noticable change in idle. This will at least determine if it's working or not.
I also checked the PDA shutter or flap or whatever it is to make sure it moved. This is situated in the plastic intake manifold and closes half the inlet ports off. It seems to move freely enough. It seems to be operated by electric over vacuum?

So how comes power is same as Stilo without VVT

I believe it's a lot to do with emissions more than anything. It is only car tax band E and is doin 40mpg or there abouts so it must run on fresh air. I suppose if emissions didnt matter it would have more than 95 bhp!

How much is that tax band? Stilo and Panda 100hp with same engine but not VVT are £160 a year atm. (n)

The t-jet has direct injection, I'm guessing the starjet hasn't since it has 'port deactivation'. I guess that would only be usefull without direct injection???

Wikipedia seems to say that port deactivation is a means to vary the effective inlet manifold length promoting better swirle at low engine speeds and therefore cleaner combustion and more power. I'd say this was much less of an issue with direct injection as the fuel is injected at higher pressures and therefore creates a finer mist.

Does the t-jet have the vvt system?

No probably about it! The two cars are totally different animals. It's the extra torque of the t-jet that makes the difference.
