Hello

Just interested to see what other members would look at for their next car? At the minute I have a Grande Punto 1.4 Active Sport in New Orleans Blue. I'm thinking about going up a notch to the sporting 16v. But if you were in a position to buy another car, in the same range £4-5k what would you be looking at, baring in mind the cost of insurance for a 21 year old ;)

Just curious and looking for a little inspiration :)

Sticking to super minis:

You won't get a new shape fiesta or polo for that money and the old versions of both are pants, you won't get an Alfa mito either. The 207 is far too heavy so that's out and you won't want to be seen in a c3. The corsa is a bit predictable but ok. The Mazda 2 1.5 sport is apparently very good if you can get one within your budget and there is always the mini cooper.

Look for a Ford Fiesta/Focus ST would be my suggestion. Should be able to get something around 5 years old for that. Insurance might be a bit out of reach but possibly not.

Could probably also get a decent Seat Leon/Ibiza for that sort of money or if your will to compromise on age look for a Golf/A3.

Going none sporting supermini, swift 1.5 glx, it'll run rings round a non turbo gp in a straight line and demolish it in the corners despite lack of sporty badge, got a bit more to spend the swift sport is great car. Only issues coming from a gp would probably be a small boot and pretty high tax (just paid 170 for a year....) And insurance cos its a slightly rare jap beasty. I was paying 850 comp at 22, I've made no secret that my time with my car hasn't been perfect but 5 years down the line I still love it.

NO don't 'upgrade' to a Starjet!

What you want is a TJET, they are rare as hen's teeth though. I'd have no other car in that price range for the value for money, performance, insurance, running costs etc

It's a range winner, obviously it's not in the faster car in it's class but has enough power to get about.

This.

It's t-jets I'm looking at for sure. Very very small increase on insurance, but damn they are hard to find, nearest one to me is about 40 miles away!

are they really that rare now? keep hearing people say they can barely find any, had best keep mine in tip top shape then! ;)

if I were you id get a t-jet, great nippy car with cheap insurance, saying that dont be afraid to ask your insurer for quotes on other cars. Im also 21 and ive had my T-Jet for nearly 2 years now, im looking at audi S3s, subaru wrx's, mazda 3 mps, leon cupras and such now, only £200 more or so than my t-jet so dont rule anything out! (y)

on another note, I wonder if your into urbex? haha :)

True, I'm surprised at what I can look at. Love the grande though...

Urbex, aha, yes. I use the alias on 28dayslater as 'hidden', check it out ;)

Go for the 1.9 multijet I went from 1.2 GP to the 1.9 GP insurance wasnt much more and economy and power is better

That's nothing, I used to live in Poole and went all the way to Liverpool, twice, to buy my previous 406 coupe. Good cars are worth the effort.

If you want more suggestions as to what to buy next it might be a good idea to narrow down your priorities; for example what size, petrol or diesel, na or turbo, sporty or comfy, subtle (i.e. Punto) or brash (i.e. A hot ford), interior quality (German) or driving dynamics (Renaultsport).....
