My sons 1.2 GP is, as he says, Too quiet

So I am looking at Induction kits to make it sound a bit beefier.

My question is............without changing the exhaust, will it make much difference on its own??

Also, will it affect anything else on its own??

Cheers from a middle aged father who is getting toooo involved in this modding thing. ;)

Yea gotta agree with matthewr1990, an induction kit wont really make much difference to anything. If all he wants is it to be louder he may as well just remove the standard airbox and replace it with a cone filter. Itd probably suffer from heatsoak and affect the performance but itd make it louder.

Cheers all...............I'm gonna try and explain to my lad that he'll have to shout broom broom a bit louder.

Oh, and wots heatsoak when its at home, and how will it affect wot little performance its got now??

^^^^ thats called hitting the nail on the head lol.

You could always make your own induction with some silicone tubing and a filter and direct it away from the engine, usually near the wheel arch.

Personally i have the forge induction on my car which uses a heatshield, which basically protects the filter from any heat off the engine but they only make them for the tjet so tht no help to your lad lol.

The 1.2 as an engine is really nice efficiency wise which is good for penny pinching. And I find there isn't anything I can't do with mine. It takes me up the motorway nicely, hills are a slight struggle with a full passenger load but drop the gears and use them wisely and you can get anywhere. I'm guessing he has the 1.2 because he's a young lad and that's all he can insure? I'd say make him keep it standard get his no claims up and then he can get an actual car that should make noise and does have power.

Well, as for the standard bit........

I have already put 17" alloys on it
Tinted the back
Up & over stripe

Oh, and fluffy diced it.

Enough for me............

Lol I meant standard engine wise, modications to its looks as long as there not full body kits are always nice. Keeps things personal then. Look at mine for example. I have made it my own car but made sure I don't touch the engine. There isn't any point on a 1.2 there really isn't.

Yes everything is standard as far as the engine.......and its gonna have to stay that way.
(if it was my car, it would be blinged up to an inch of its life) :)

Have looked at yours Matt, and it does look the dogs doodahs............your car I mean. lol

Whilst modding up my sons car, I have had to rein myself back from going tooo mad. The ickle boy is me kept trying to surface.
Even mentioned to my wife about getting another car, so I can tinker with it................I think she swore???

Like I said............tints, stripe, Alloys and fluffy dice is enough for now........Oh, I did get his Ipod connected........so "Dad" is da man.
wink.gif

Also changed his brake pads, and have got brake disks to go on...........but I couldn't get that sodding stumpy screws out..........so left it for now.
It does need mudflaps, as the wider wheels make a bloody mess on black cars especially.

I have one and im going to start off saying - it was the best £50 i have ever spent! The noise is there only when at full throttle so on long journey's it doesnt interfer :)

private message me if you want a video mine while through town

Black cars are phenomenally difficult to keep clean. I feel your pain. But i dislike the mudflaps on a personel level so I live with it as my wheels are also wider since adding the alloys. And thank you for the compliments. My Phoebe is a lovely car but she definatly needs to be lowered other than that I'm completely happy with her.

You should get yourself a challenge. If its something you wanna do then do it (regardless of swear words lmao).

Others have their opinions but here's mine.

I have a Grande Punto 1.4 8v active sport.

My mods to engine were:

Full cobra stainless steel exhaust system
decat manifold
bmc cda air induction kit

Total cost ~£700

This made MINIMAL difference to performance.

The air filter will make a nice noise, which is more what you were asking in the opening post, but just thought id sahre my experience on performance.

Just being honest.

:D:D Now that is sad ;);)

I do quite fancy lowering it............but I have to remember, Its not my bloody car

I know wot you mean about mudflaps........and being as the wheels ARE slightly wider, the small descret flaps are a no go. I'm going to have a look around and see wot other options I have.......I mean "he has" ;)

I need to work on the wife and persuede her that I NEED a project..............but at the moment, all I'm getting is, "You can't even finish the bloody decorating" so, its a bit touch & go at the mo. I'll keep looking though. :p

He is STILL going on about making it a bit sound a bit meatier.............I STILL tell him to "shut it"

Anyone know of a decent set of mudflaps that will actually fit a car with slightly wider wheels????
