Hello

I'm a newbee to both the forum and finding my way around underneath the bonnet so bare with me on this one!

Upon checking the wear on my air filter on my T-Jet the other day I noticed a fair bit of oil (photo hopefully attached!) on the underside of the air filter and around the entrance to hose shown. I also found a small pool in the well of the intake.

I know a small amount of oil is expected but is this a little excessive? If so, could someone could suggest the areas I might want to check to find the source of the problem? :)

Cheers,

Aaron

Tbh that dont look like oil to me...

Looks more like rust water cuased by the main blade (where its completly brown) running and soaking into the rest of the filter....

What colour is your oil now? as that looks a chocolote brown to me
where as normally its golden brown to black crud

Ziggy

This is an old tuning trick, the breather pipe can be disconnected and a small filter added to the open end of the breather hose, helps the engine breath especially alongside a performance air filter. The staining is hot oil vapour from the disconnected breather hose.

Link for the filter required for the breather hose.

Looks like I might have jumped the gun on this one! Thanks for the advise.

Wasn't aware of the vent filter, the breather isn't connected as I had just taken the intake off and hadn't fitted it back on again :)

Thats what i thought lol would of been completely wrong to be a breather setup or PCV positive crankcase ventilation the 'old tuner trick' lol

Ps. Breather filters are not right cracking mine just seeped with oil anyway, tried a catch tank set up, a lot better collects all the liquidy type oil, and just releases the gases through which you can also use a filter on
