This week I ordered:

Powerflex engine mount insert and 20mm rollbar bushes.

Fitted engine mount bush , fairly straight forward, it's the rear gearbox mount. Makes it miles firmer, less engine rock .

Then.... Anti roll bar bushes.....

Only to find out the existing bushes are bolted down with a 2 piece clamp, that appears welded together... Tried chiselling apart, no joy?

Why on earth have fiat welded the clamp together? So you have to buy a whole roll bar?

Anyone else any idea how to remove old bushes and fit new ones?

I am going to replace the front arms bushes with the ones from the corsa opc (same as grandes) not the anti roll bar ones.
But since the powerflex kit is the same for both grande and OPCs why don't you make a question over there?

Thanks but it's not viable, no room to get a grinder near.

Anyone else?

No one else replaced there bushes?

Hi Matty,

Looking at the bushes on the Powerflex site, they appear to be a one piece bush that needs to be slid over the roll bar. Could it be that you need to slide/drift the old bushes out of the bracket and slide/drift the new ones in? Looking at the manual I have, it merely says remove the two bolts on each bracket and jack the engine up slightly to remove the whole roll bar assembly.
You may find that you need to slide the whole bracket assembly off the roll bar, and remove the old bushes on a bench, then slide the whole assembly back onto the roll bar. Lots of grease on the roll bar will help sliding them off and on.

I hope this makes sense, and is helpful! (y)

Cheers,

Mark.

Which bush size did you get for you antiroll bar - 20mm? And how easy was it to remove the bar from the car - a case of jacking it up, unbolting and sliding it out or needs more stuff unbolting out of the way first?

Looking at Eper and shop4parts both seem to suggest the t-jet uses an 18mm bar, which powerflex don't list a bush size to match with.

From shop4parts it seems to suggest the following:
1.2 8v, 1.4 8v/16v, 1.4 TJET all use 18mm part number 55700769
1.3 MJTD 75hp/90hp use 19mm part number 55700770
1.3 MJTD Sport - 1.9 JTD use 20mm part number 55702727
all of which are parts listed in Eper, however it doesn't mention a t-jet anywhere (or indeed a 1.4 16V...) so I'm not convinced shop4parts is correct in saying its 18mm on the t-jet and I don't own any measuring calipers to accurately check this myself.

Which must leave the Abarth using the 21mm - specs online for abarth do say that they use a "thicker antiroll bar" http://www.abarthcars.co.uk/uk/CMSUK/CarsElaborations/Pages/AbarthGrandePunto.aspx

Might have to hunt for an Abarth bar now then to go with some 21mm bushes....

Edit: maybe not, this website http://www.myabarth.co.uk/2008/07/abarth-launches-in-the-uk/ seems to suggest the Abarth uses the 19mm... now I'm just more confused, which uses the 21mm?!

Didn't remove roll bar, as I spoke to tech at dealership and you need to either lower subframe, or start removing:

Track rod(then have to get tracking done)
Both complete wishbones,
Drop links
Possibly shock too
There's just not enough room to turn it to get it out.

All I did was:

Jack up and put on axle stands , make sure there not where the 2holes are for each roll bar clamp(2)

Remove wheels and both droplinks(15mm spanner and torx)

Undo 2 bolts for each roll bar clamp through the holes in subframe.

Then slide out roll bar as far as you can one side first obviously, and chisel/hammer/split two parts apart
