hi all,

hope somebody can help,
about a month ago i had airbag failure light on, took it to garage paid for diagnostics which came back with signal from airbag sensor was erratic.
booked it in the garage later that week to get sorted. the guy in the garage said he had unplugged the connector and plugged it back in and the light had gone off run it a while see what its like. so i did.....

a week later , and bad weather i.e rain and the light had come back on again and was on till last week when we had good weather i.e dry and sunny and the light had gone out again, maybe could just be a coincidence that the bad connection has coincided with the weather, but.....

again today, pretty wet day and the light is back again, so i am now pretty certain that there is water getting in to the connector.

But where is this connector? i thought it may be under the seat, but surely water wouldnt affect it if it were.

Grande punto 1.2 2007 109000miles

thanks

Check the connectors under both front seats...

Unplugg and clean them with electric contact cleannig spray!

It should solve the problem! (y)

I red it carefully!

He sais - "i thought it may be under the seat, but surely water wouldnt affect it..."

I say - Clean it any how! I takes 5 minutes!

Surely water doesn't reach the connectors, but condensations from shoes and floor mats does!

But he's already said the fault is with the airbag sensors, not the side airbags.

What do side airbags have to do with this?

Each front seat has a sensor built in, to detect if the seat is empty or not! In 90% of airbag error lights cases, the problem is in the connectors under the seats!

I'm just saying, try to do a proper cleanning of the connectors, before go on spending money on a garage...

My mistake then!

I've seen similar cases in, among others, Lancia Lybra, Fiat Stilo and Fiat Strada...

Just thought that GP had the same wiring structure!

I would assume cost cutting is a factor here? Likely seat belt contacts confirm presence of passenger and ecu determines first or second stage deployment depending on speed, crash sensor signal etc
