Well, I'm back again and in need of help!

I've managed to fix a couple of the other problems Ive been having but now my GP won't start.

I was driving yesterday and the speedo needle went haywire for a little bit, just went down to 0mph the back up to 40mph.

Anyway, the car worked fine, although it flashed up a power steering error. When I went to leave where I'd been visiting 5 hours later the car wouldn't start.

I can put the key in the ignition and turn it, but it just clicks loudly, and then after about 20 clicks it starts to sound like it's grinding.

I thought it was faulty battery (original battery was 6 years old) so I popped the new battery in today but I still get the same fault. It's never done this before!

The only other problem I can remember with the startup was that about a week ago it chuggered along for about 10 seconds before it started.

I've tried to read through hundreds of other threads on here but can't really work out which one's apply to me and my specific problem. I'm inclined to think it's a starter motor problem but I don't know where that is in the engine bay to have a look at it and check connections etc.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Oh, and I don't know if it makes a difference but whenever I try to start the car the excess rad temp message appears and bleeps, and then disappears...

Sounds like a bad engine earth to me, try connecting a jump lead from negative side of battery to engine and see if it starts then.

I had the same problem yesterday too!! god knows whats going on, I jump started my car and drove for 15 minutes to get home and the engine was jumpy.. in low gears it would over rev and the engine would cut out as well as having the same engine start problems, jumpy needle problem and power steering problems :/

this has happened to me before, doesnt start just turns over, excessive rad temp flashes then cuts out completely, normally get it to start after few attempts, doesnt matter if engine is hot or cold. what model you got? mine is 1.9

this is a common problem with grandes unfortionatly,

when this issue appears for me, soon as i realize it isnt going to start, turn car off, turn key wait for glow plugs symbol to go out, leave it few more seconds turn car off again then atempt to start. usually works for me :)
