I dont know if its 100% accurate but i read somewhere that if a car is flood/water damaged it is automatically a write off or cat C/D etc. It could have been mentioned on an old episode of 'Autotrader'

Read wrong - thats only if it goes through insurance, and if its more than the vehicle is worth to repair.

Only time its slightly different is if its sewage tbh. Fresh water isn't to bad depending upon the level of submersion.

to what degree is it flood damaged? are we talking parked in a big puddle and some water got in the doors or parked in a tsunami flood plain at the height of earth quake season.

with out knowing how much damage is done there is no way of saying how much it will cost to fix?

if you've not drained and changed the oil, purged the fuel system and emptied the fuel tank and refilled with some nice new diesel, then i wouldn't expect it to start either.
