I have a 2007 1.2 8v with 24700 miles. Passed M.O.T no problem but its about time to get a new cambelt. Garage said to change water pump aswell. Is this needed at this milage?

My GP 08' 1.2 has just past 24,000 miles and this now has be wondering if I should think about getting mine done.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems far too early for a cam belt change.

If its an 8v then it'll only be an inconvenience, if the 16v your asking for trouble though (I'm not sure what the 1.2 in the GP is).

I've been told that my 1.4 16V engine will not suffer damage if the belt fails, but the 8V will because the larger 8V valves clash with the pistons; i.e. just the opposite from what you say.

Have I been misinformed? :confused::confused:

You have indeed been misinformed unfortunatly. The 8v is none interference, the 16v is an interference engine so will suffer major damage.

I thought all modern engines were interference. I should have just waited until it snapped rather than changing it last year :D
