Hello all.

After fitting my tmc tuning box last week i never got a chance to drive my car properly until today.

I was coming home from work this afternoon and i decided to put my foot down and see how my car drove now.

It was all going great until i hit *0 and then i got "check engine" on the dash and now the cars in limp mode.

I've removed the tuning box for now.

How do i get rid of the "check engine" message?

Is it safe to drive with the error message?

I've got an EML327 cable and the free version of fiatecuscan if that helps.

The free version of FES won't really do anything on a GP - you need the registered version to get any coverage beyond CAN info (CAN info alone won't be any help).

Is the engine block symbol on too?
If so, you could try some free EOBD code reading software like EngineCheck LE to find out what's caused the light to come on.

As for whether it's safe to drive, you won't know until you know what the fault codes are - the Check Engine Light covers a whole host of gremlins, some minor, some more major.

FiatECUScan is pretty much unbeatable for the money, so worth getting if you want to see more of the car (airbags, ABS, service lights etc).
If you've got an ELM327 v1.3 or later all you'd need is a software license and a yellow adaptor cable to get full coverage for a GP.

If engine management coverage is all you need though, EOBD software would cover that, so depends if you feel like spending :)

I tried to read the fault code using enginecheck Le but it never showed any errors . I must of wiped them off somehow when i checked with fiatecuscan :bang:

But on the plus side the car drove fine today without the error message showing and the light had gone off

The car's ECU will actually clear a lot of fault codes itself, if the faults are just relating to sensor values operating out of spec, and their behaviour then falls back into spec.

At least you have a tool to check now if it comes back on!

you dont need to do anything other than start the car up and turn it off 3 times in a row to clear the limp mode, you ad the box turned up too high probably, i got mine on 3/4 and its never cut out on that setting, any more than that it does.
