Have read a few post ref gearbox issues ..As i do gearbox repairs on trucks and cars work much the same .I thought i would give some small pointers which may help some people ..Apologises if it sounds like i'm teaching people to suck eggs ,not my intention..

One way to shorten the life of synchros is resting your hand on the gearlever ,this results in pressure being constantly applied to thr synchro ring and accelerated wear and also causes overheating and blueing of the bulkring ..If your car is under warranty ,warranty is rejected as it is classed as driver abuse .When you change gear get your hand of the gear lever ...The syncro ring is basically a brake it slows the bulk ring down ,so constant pressure on it will wear it out ..Other methods to accelerate wear which are warranty rejections are .Racing through the gears ,generally you will not get proper clutch seperation .Also ,even though it is acceptable to do ,manufacturers frown on it ,is block changes ie. 2nd to 4th ...again accelerates syncro wear ..Now i do not expect everyone to drive like angels ,then again how do angel drive ???.But it's just some pointers to help people espically if the car is still under warranty ..Though i would say main point is don't rest your hand on the gear lever as once you have changed gear the detents hold it in and the syncro backs off from the bulk ring
