Right, on a bit of a rant, probably other threads similar, but it's really really annoying now.

The brakes squeak when only having the brake pedal pushed lightly, soon as you put a bit more pressure on they stop squeaking. Tried the usual disc and pad change, tms and mintex pads, the back ones are knackered but they don't squeak ATM. could it be cater problems or what? Oh by the way it's the 1.9 m-jet.

Anyone any ideas? As I just want normal, not squeaky brakes

Cheers, Adam ll

Same issue, 57 plate 1.4 8v hopefully someone's got an idea :)

Mintex pads are known for being quite noisy, could just be them.

Yeah I've heard there squeaky too, backs need done so I'm gna put them ebc turbo groove discs with ultimate pads or brembo pads

Any know of any good pads that are silent? Let me know :)

Just wanted them to stop squeaking!!! ASAP

Probly get some second hand calipers too, another thig I can't work out is that I know the screaming is from the front but I don't know whether it's both sides or just the one, if anything I thin it's just drivers side but I don't know, any one woth any past experiences with squeaky brakes please feel free to help me out! Cheers, Adam

I would just put standard brakes on the back, no point having fancy ones. They do like 10% of the work?

Hi Guys,

This post sounds similar to the issues I am having.

I recently had a guy who works for Audi replace my front pads and discs around 6-8 weeks ago as they were worn on my grande punto 1.9 mjet. Since then the new set (both made by eicher) have been making terrible squeals under light braking, I would say around about 15mph and below. I'm talking some loud squeals sometimes. The guy who replaced them has took the callipers back off to regrease the pads but still made no difference. One thing I did notice is that the pads did not come with any new anti-squal shims. Could this be the problem? If so can I use a anniversal anti-squeal solution such as some off of eBay to fix my issue? I do get a slight squeak from the rears at the min as they are due a replace but these front ones are unbearable.

Any comments are appreciated in advance.

Regards
Lee

I have a TWO MONTH OLD 500L and my brakes have been squeaking since about 3-4 weeks of ownership. It's always with light pressure, coming to a stop at a slow speed. Doesn't matter what time of day or how many miles I have driven that day or that ride.

I called the two closest dealerships to me, one my place of purchase, had to leave messages every time. Can't get a call back. Nice.

Today resorted to calling the next closest one (pretty far away actually) and was able to speak to someone. He said that this is a common problem with FIATs. It's the metal-on-metal brake system. FIAT corporate says that there's nothing that can be done. "Brakes are brakes and sometimes they make a squeak."

I told him that my old Honda never made one squeak in 10 years of owning it. He said that's because they have ceramic brake pads. "Can I get ceramic after market pads for my FIAT?" He didn't know, suggested I google search for that.

He suggested that there was one thing that could be done which is application of a "brake quiet" substance. It's like a graphite mixture that settles into the grooves of the brake and reduces the vibrations that cause the noise. It's not covered under warranty, however. $$ within two months? Seriously!?

Based on my early experience, I would love to warn others thinking of buying a FIAT ........ According to FIAT corporate, "Noisy brakes are NORMAL operation. Live with it, punk. Ha ha, you sucker."
That is totally how I feel right now. Like a sucker - wishing I had my old Honda back. Quiet brakes and great customer service. Sure, it was a grandma car compared to my FIAT, but I never worried about waking up the neighbors pulling into my driveway.

I have EBC ultimate pads on mine. They were a bit squeaky for the first few hundred miles but have been fine since.

I'm using standard discs

Most brakes squeak on modern cars due to the materials they have to use. A new van I use at work has squeaky brakes, the Audi A3 the other half has, has squeaky brakes, my GP used to as does my Focus now.

I also have had squeaky rear brakes since purchase of my Fiat 500 Pop. It's annoying, but apparently "normal" and getting different brake pads "might" fix the problem, but I don't have spare $$ for a "maybe".

Hi guys I just had the same problem with my girlfriend car. Re grease the pads and it stop for about 5 minutes and started again so I watched a video on YouTube where the guy sed get a spray bottom and put some Soapy water in it and clean the pads with it and put it back in and it has worked on my girlfriends car and the squeaky brakes have gone
