Hello all. :)

I have had my 2006 GPS 1.9 sinch March 2011 and have enjoyed ownership apart from the all too common gearbox whine issue. Anyway that fixed she has been brilliant otherwise! Current has 72xxx on the clock so plenty of life left.

I have been out of the tuning scene for a bit but now Im getting the itch again and it needs to be scratched! Basically this thread is to report my progress (probably a bit slow!) and to ask you very helpful people for advice.

IMG_0222.JPG

Plan of action:

OEM:

New Undertray (Current one has a couple of cracks).
Fiat Sub Cover (Current one cracked) - Cant seem to find anywhere?!?

Brakes:

Brembo Drilled Front + Rear Discs.
EBC Green Stuff Front + Rear Pads.

Chassis:

Forge Braces.

Engine:

Induction Kit - GSR is supposed to be the best?
Forge Intercooler.
VL36 Turbo - Better Performance Figures On Remap?
Remap.

Transmission:

Uprated Clutch For Remap - Good Idea?

Suspension:

Lowering Springs - Eibach are supposed to be good? Rear lowered more than front?

Styling:

Front Bumper Lip - Ebay. Anyone fitted one of these?
De-Badged Black Grille.
Team Heko Wind Deflectors.
Black Vinyl Roof.
FiatForum Stickers.

Wheels:

Spray OEM Wheels Anthracite.
Toyo Proxie T1R Tires.

Some of this may never get done, depends on money really. Its nice to have a wish list and some sort of plan though. ;)

Thanks for looking hope to keep you all updated and thanks for all the future help I may get!

Mclarenmatt.

Nothing you can do turbo wise unless you want to spend a minimum of €1800. The vl36/37/38 is for the tjet/abarth petrols.

Hybrid the m-jet turbo, someone I know had it done might be worth thinking about :D! Bmc panel filter will be perfect induction wise and alot cheaper, standard air box is good!

Are you sure? Because every company I have contacted have told me it cant be made into a hybrid. Cant be rebuilt either in UK as Garrett don't supply the rebuild kits over here.

Are you running a standard air box? I seem to hear good things about standard and Induction so Im not too sure at the moment what I should do. Theres plenty of panel filters about though I see.

A quick search doesn't seem to bring much up, I will have a better look soon to see what the deal is. :)

Unless this person with the hybrid turbo was having me on but I can find out where it got done if its legit :D!

I have now on my t-jet, I did have forge induction kit but put it back to standard with bmc panel filter...the feel much better, much smoother!

Ha yeah I would put my money on him having you on, as I contacted about 5 companies and none of them could do anything.

Company that hybrid an m-jet turbo, c r turbos- UK based company and they have a website www.crturbos.co.uk they are legit :D!

I want a big thank you from all you m-jet owners who now can hybrid your turbos :D!!!!

Thanks for finding the link! :) They seem pretty good, although Im sure it's gonna be quite pricey. Still worth thinking about.

I need to know whether a panel filter or induction kit seems to be the best on the 130bhp 1.9 diesel? There seems to be arguments for both.

Induction kits on diesels are awful imo. Panel filter all the way.

emailed crturbos:

We certainly can do the upgrade to these units, we have done quite a few and had very good results. The price to overhaul and upgrade your unit is £545.00 + £15.00 Carriage + Vat. Turnaround is 2-3 days currently.

jesus £672 inc vat , plus paying postage to get your turbo to them, and having no car for circa a week while its off???

Very pricey, personally wouldn't bother for no extra power, it will only help is hold its boost a tad better/prolong its life. Its like half the price of that for the tjet turbo made into a hybrid.

€1800 gets you the bigger turbo/downpipe/tubular manifold anyways!

emailed back saying was a bit steep, and that i cant afford to have car off road fro a week, while i remove my turbo, send it back, then wait for it to return, and they emailed back:

Hello Matt,
We C.N.C machine the compressor cover and fit a 56mm compressor wheel, modify the back plate, motorsport 360 degree thrust bearing, new modified turbine wheel and full service kit, as you can see there is a lot of new parts and work carried out on the unit. The best price we could offer the unit on an exchange basis for would be our trade price @ £495.00 + £15.00 Carriage + Vat.

Hello Matt,
The unit will have the standard VNT and come complete with the manifold. We send you the exchange unit and when you have the turbo fitted put the old unit in the same box and give us a call and we send the courier back in to collect, this doesn’t have to be there and then...The up-rated unit will have very different characteristics to the standard turbo and will need re-mapping to suit. The service kit is the bearings seals etc in the turbo. The gaskets are genuine only.

A lot of money really but i guess it would be worth it if you intended on keeping the car for a long time.

Personally if it was just something I was doing for the sake of it i would put the £600-700 towards the Italian kit.

Are they really that bad? In that case I have heard good thing's about the green cotton panel filters such as this one?

Thanks for the information, seems like quite alot of £. Would be good if they could supply a standard dyno graph to compare with their hybrid turbo remapped on a graph.

Edit:/

Has any body used these discs and pad's on their Punto?

EBC Green Stuff Brake Pads
Black Diamond Combi Brake Discs

Green cotton is pretty good, will be no worse than BMC or K & N.

There would be a good chance the dyno graph would be no different at all, hybridding the turbo will just help it last longer/take more abuse.

Got green stuff pads up front in mine and they are great. Wouldn't touch black diamond discs though.
