Some advice on what I could be looking at would be appreciated.

Grande Punto Dual Logic 1.4 2007 (hatch)
Parked yesterday, put it in reverse when I parked as I was facing downhill. It went into reverse with a crash and quite a bump.

Anyway when I came back and started up (no errors or warning lights) Reverse engaged but when I wne to drive off it wouldnt go into 1st. Eventually it did and I drove off and 50metres later it went into Neutral and showed dual logic failure.

Now it wont go into any gear at all.

Had it towed (out of warranty) to a transmission place. They have looked at it and after I took my laptop down there today we found that error P060C is showing. Saying that the fault is intermittent, but it isnt, it wont go into any gear at all.

Now we can hear the pump priming when the door is opened and it sounds like the actuator is trying to put it into gear.

Anyway I have to get it towed to the dealer next week and get them to look it over. Just wanted to see if anyone thinks its the ECU or if its actually the gearbox or actuator?

I wasnt going to have the transmission place pull the actuator out and then find out its the ECU.

I'm in Australia so I dont count on anything being cheap, the car hasnt even done 90,000Km yet.

Roughly what would a gearbox and ECU cost in GDP? Want to compare it to what the dealer is going to charge. The trade in value of the car I've been told is only $7000AUD, so it might not be worth changing the gearbox, might sell it for parts.

sounds like the selespeed's hydraulic accumulator has gone. shop4parts has that at less than 100 pounds.

the accumulator and clutch wears out about the same time (80k km or so) so you may want to look replacing the clutch as well.

Thanks for the info, better to be armed with info when I get the cause from the dealer. If I can import cheaper I'll do that and get my local mechanic to fit. I'm selling the car either way (wrecking whole car) or fixed and selling it.

Nothing but trouble with this Punto. Multiple window regulators, poor interior build quality, gearbox that fails after 80,000? I have a Toyota Landcruiser that has done over 300,000km and has only ever had minor servicing. Other smaller Toyota family cars have done similar.

Fiat = Cheap, nasty and poor after sales service. Never, ever again.

Fiat = flair, style and fun. Toyota = boring.

That said, I understand what it is like to have a pup of a car that just keeps going wrong. You just want it out of your life.
