Hi,

I have currently got a GP T-jet and was wondering at the possibility of getting a remap, however before doing this i know its a good idea to have other things done to the car, so I have been reading a bit on here and found that fitting an abarth turbo and a front mount are popular options for the t jets.

Although finding an abarth turbo is a lot harder than I first thought! Have seen a VL38 turbo on ebay for £300 and was wondering if this is a better choice than the VL36? i.e the differences between them and what not?

Also does anyone know of any decent remapping places round the Yorkshire area?

Thanks for reading! :)
Josh

Cant remember the differences between the 36 and 38. Im sure there are none but apprently one spools up slightly quicker?

You wont be far from RS Tuning are you? I would go there but i would highly recommend Sanspeed tuning, they are a Fiat specialist. Had a fiat 500 abarth running 240+. They done mine and its been great ever since. But it is in London so a bit of trek, although i travelled 400 miles each way for it lol.

Other popular mods as you say are the forge fmic, and turbo back exhaust as once remapped the exhaust is what restricts it from more power.

Thanks for that! And yes had a look and I'm only half an hour away from RS tuning.

Dont think i'm looking for any serious sort of power like the 500! but around the 170-80 mark?

Whats yours running atm?

Is it safe to run with just a VL38 and a map? or are things like manifolds and alike needed? or just for extra bhp

VL36 (Abarth Grande Punto) and VL38 (Abarth 500) do differ slightly, I believe the VL36 spools up faster but maxes out quicker (for more low end torque since the GP is heavier), whereas the VL38 spools slower but boosts higher later on in the rev range.

The manifold is the same for the VL37 (standard T-Jet turbo), VL36 and VL38. It would be perfectly fine to just swap the turbo and map it, but if you want more than around 155bhp you'll need to mod a few more things.

My car has: VL36 Turbo, Forge Intercooler, GSR Induction, 2.5" Catback exhaust, De-cat, Forge Actuator. Remapped and running 180bhp. Check my members motors thread (link in my sig) for more info

I own an Mjet so sort of irrelevant. But any similar set up to Dlights will see anywhere from 180-190 from what I have witnessed.

Is there much more you could do? What would you say would be the max bhp out of a T Jet or is it just as far as you want to take it

yeah the vl36 tends to have a higher peak torque figure than the vl38 aswell... though you'd be able to get a fair bit more than 155bhp with just a turbo and a map, depending on the age/condition/wear of your car i reckon you could see anywhere between 160 and 180.

with regards to max bhp it really depends how far you want to take it...you could go down the hybrid turbo route or go for a garrett turbo but then you'd have to go for manifold mods and spend a lot more money on engine components and gearbox

You wouldn't see 180 without an exhaust system and I doubt hybriding the turbo will add any extra bhp either. Generally hybriding is used more to strengthen the turbo.

There is someone in a 500 Abarth, who is running 300Bhp, now put it this way it cost about the same as the base car to get it to that level of power as you dont just upgrade the engine at those powers

Its approx 9k all in for a Tjet to be running 260bhp safe thats fitted by a specialist. Thats what his 500 abarth was running.

Cheers lads, exactly what i was looking for! (y)

on the intercoolers side of things, what would you lot reccomend? forge? and what sizes etc?

would there be much of a need for a fmic if i only wanted about 170ish bhp?

if so, where are the best places in Yorkshire for me to get a turbo + fmic fitted? or would a local garage be able to do it then just take it elsewhere to be mapped?

Forge sell one designed for the Tjet. Its about the cheapest option unless you go custom off ebay. Toyo sports do a little one that will fit but you need to do all your own pipework then etc. Two italian companies sell them as well but they are £500 +.

Any decent garage should be able to fit either of the two as they are just standard replacements really.

yeah thought that was the case,

Like i said earlier i've seen a VL38 on ebay for £320 new, i'd post the link but i cant with not having over 5 posts! so if you could put in ebay VL38 turbocharger and its the only one, and see if thats the right thing i should be going for?:)

I presume this is the one you're talking about:

Yes that's what you want if you don't mind paying that price for it, it is new so should be good.

If you wanted a bit cheaper could put a cheeky offer in on this one:

As for the FMIC, yeah forge is the best value for money one to get. I've compared my car to another one with the same setup but without the FMIC, and mine could do consistent runs on the rolling road with the same power, whereas his couldn't due to the heatsoak, power was dropping between runs so they had to let it cool. Up to you really though.

180 is a safe figure I'm happy with, the injectors max out at around 185-190, so to get past that you'd need to swap them out for some bigger ones. Unless I win the lottery I don't plan on taking mine any further, because then you get into serious ££££ for forged pistons, lighter flywheel, race clutch, probably a new gearbox etc etc..

Yes that was the one i was looking at and would rarther fork out abit more for a new one tbh, so that turbo would definatley be ok for it as i'm on the verge of buying it haha!

yeah was wondering if there was going to be a problem with heat soak from them but wasnt too sure,

Would the fmic intercooler be the one with the Red GP on the picture on the Forge website? ( still cant post links )

Also would i need a induction kit or anything like or can the standards cope? and maybe buy one at a later date.

thanks so far!(y)

Yeah theres only 1 forge fmic for the GP. For the time being just put a panel filter in such as BMC or K&N. Some people run GSR's or Forges induction kit.

Yeah, is the forge website the best place to buy the intercooler from?

I have looked but can't seem to find any GSR's so was tempted to buy forge induction kit at same time as intercooler.
