Would anybody know if the economy spare wheel or any wheel for that matter from another make of car would do for my GP Sporting with discs all round. I went to a breakers and he has shelves full of economy spare wheels from all kinds of cars but he's not willing to take them all down to check which will fit over the calipers and suit the nut holes. He says he does'nt have a 17" sporting full size spare, but maybe one of the economy wheels would fit. I have the 17" alloys, and have tried to get a 17" steel rim as I have a tyre. I enclose photo of the wheel type.:bang:

Just get a 15 inch steel wheel, like the ones that used to come standard before the pump and goo.

The 15 steel wheel from any Grande Punto will fit, as long as it's OEM.

Make sure it's 6j X 15 - ET 43 . This can be either a normal wheel or the spare.

I don't know if any other car used the same wheel. Sorry.

Just noticed you were from Ireland.
Recent post for a Grand Punto Abarth on 'winter wheels' and there's some useful 'bits' in this thread...

Key thing is that you can fit a 'normal' Fiat wheel to a Grand Punto with the use of spigots (Halfords charge €80 for a full set - no partial sets) and wobbly bolts - but the cost is too much. The Grand Punto has the 'Vauxhall' gene with the smaller bore size (the hole in the middle) which is great for getting a cheap set of alloys.

Also since your model is the Sporting i.e. is not a T-jet you have the smaller discs 257 which means that it should be able to take a 15 inch. Double check that if you get a steelie that it clears the calipers on the front - some had trouble with getting a 16inch steelie to clear on a T-jet (ack. to Andy) since they have the 280 discs.

Your handbook should have the recommended wheels including the spacesaver. Also the difference in weight between a normal 'steelie ' and a spacesaver is about 7-8lbs - only 'real' benefit is the saving in space. You'll probably find that as you increase the size of the wheel e.g. to a 16 inch with a wider width of 6.5J / 7J that the ET will 'go down' to an ET39.

According to my owner's manual (page 221), the 6j X 15" - ET 43 steel rim fits every version of the Grande Punto.

Who knows, maybe Fiat lied when they printed the manual. <shrug>

Anyway, I only know what Fiat says, so I'll let all the experts help you out.

Thanks for all your help lads. :worship:Went to a breakers today and bought a 15" rim with 195 / 60 tyre off a Stilo for 20 quid, tyre is very good. The breaker said it will do the job and he will take it back if it does'nt work.(y) I have'nt tried it yet to see if it works will do so tomorrow and will post again with the verdict.

Had a look at that link thanks, :worship:Never thought of looking in the owners handbook thanks for the above info and not very well up on the disc sizes front and rear. I take it that the discs are bigger in front so I will try the new 15" STILO wheel on the front first. (y)

Punto grande 1.4 16v sporting discs all round. Ya just to let you know the Stilo 15 inch 195 x 60 tyre fits, so I have removed the plastic tray in the boot and got a bolt and bracket to secure the wheel in the spare wheel well. I actually but the wheel on the rear of the car yesterday to check and put on all the bolts to be sure I was sure, but now me thinks the front brake discs may be larger and I'll be in trouble anyone know, I think I'll have to think it out again

Are you sure it fits properly? I think the stilo has a 98mm pcd and the Grande a 100mm pcd. You may be able to get the bolts in but it won't be safe. wobble bolts may solve the problem.

Ya it took a few tries to get the 4 bolts hand screwed ( maybe because of the 2mm difference) and then I tightened them with wheel brace, all seemed ok did'nt test drive. What You think ??What are wobble bolts???

Wobble bolts give you -2/+2 leeway in the size you can use.

This way you can use 98pcd to 102pcd wheel on your Grande Punto.

I'm not a fan of wobble bolts.
