Hi,

I have an 08 Grande Punto 1.3 multijet, and where the cigarette lighter would be by the steering wheel is what i assume is a power outlet, it states 180w max on it.

The only thing i tried to plug in got fried, it was a cheap and nasty car hoover that was about 5 years old (was new and never out of the box) and now not sure what to do, dont want to plug a satnav in incase it does the same but could just be a crap hoover, is there any way to test this socket or get it changed for a lighter (non smoker but more comfortable with what i know)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David

It should give a 12volt supply which is fine for a sat nav. I can't see how it could ever give any more than 12volts as with the exception of the ignition system that is all that the car's electrical system has to give. If you really want to test it use a multimeter.

there is only a 12v battery on the car and the alternator should shove out a max of 14v ish

which something with a motor should have been able to cope with

jameshobiecat makes a point if your worried

chances are it was the vacume at fault

Only thing is with the fag lighter over a power outlet is that your more likely to short the socket out with items due to the bimetal release bits in the socket for the fag lighter

If you're a non-smoker and using the socket only to power devices, a power socket version is better than a cig socket as it has mouldings in the base to help locate the device better and reduce the chances of shorting.
