Morning all, its been a while since i've been on here. I seem to get more help on here than the alfa owner site. I have recently purchased some grande 30 mm lowering springs. I couldnt get much out of the seller but he believes they were on a 1.2 or 1.4. They were only £40 so i bought them anyway. I own an alfa mito 1.4 non turbo and was just curious If anyone would know if they actually fit?

The Eibach Mito Springs are part number E10-10-008-01-22.
For the Grande Punto, Eibach lists E20-30-010-02-22; i.e. NOT the same part number.

Now what that means exactly, I'm not sure. If the GP springs fit your Mito and if they work and if they lower the car the amount you desire, then you can say you got yourself a bargain. Springs aren't rocket science, but you do need the correct free length, the correct spring rate, the correct coil spacing, and the correct physical size and/or orientation in order for them to work properly.

Changing springs on the GP isn't real difficult, but for me it's enough work so that I would NOT want to try saving 110 Euro hoping a set of unknown springs will work. I recently changed the springs on my Alfa Spider and I guarantee that I would have been VERY disappointed to get the car on the road only to discover that my "bargain" springs were not functioning properly, for one reason or another. Sure, I paid a bit more than you for my springs, but they are the exact fitment for my car.

On the other hand, your time may be worth less to you and experimenting will teach you something, one way or the other. Good luck.
 
mmmm i didn't really take alot about weight and length into the equation just thought about fitment. Just purchased them at the spur of the moment really. I have a friend who is a mechanic who will be lowering it, i will report back when they arrive as to whether they work or not. Thanks for the advice.
 
Let's take a simple look at the issue at hand. Assume you simply want to lower your car by 25mm. If you replace your existing springs with an identical set of the same spring rate, but which are 25mm shorter in free length, then your car will sit 25mm lower, plus or minus a mm or so. If you also want stiffer springs, you obviously need a set with a higher spring rate, which is a measurement of how much the spring compresses for a given force, often measured in pounds per inch. But now you need an even shorter spring to get that same 25mm lower ride height because the stiffer springs will not sag as much as standard rate springs.

Furthermore, many coil springs these days aren't bent and ground flat on the ends. They fit into specially molded rubber spring perches so the ends must be the correct shape and the cut ends must be indexed properly too if the upper and lower spring perches won't rotate relative to onea another.

And, if your springs fit over a shock absorber, then they must obviously be large enough to do so but not so large in diameter that they clash against some other part of your suspension system. Finally, if you use springs from a car of a different weight or different weight distribution, you have to consider how the different spring rate(s) will effect your car.

You can consider all these factors or you can simply try to fit the springs and see what happens. Or, you can forget all these potential headaches and buy a recommended set from a reputable after market suspension supplier. Suit yourself. But if you do actually use the springs in question, report back with your results please.
 
Thanks for the eye opener, i won't be fitting these when they arrive, didn't take into account all the factors that i should of. Should've gone with my gut instint and not bothered, just seemed like a good idea at the time. Look out for some grande lowering springs on ebay soon lol
