I want to buy an afternarket stereo and do a boot build etc in my punto however my gp has blue&me and mp3 usb connection.
If i buy a stereo with usb then i still have the mp3 but if i fit an aftermarket stereo i will lose blue&me (which i dont use anyway).
Is it worth doing and are there any problems by doing this?
Cheers!

As above.

I never used the Bluetooth so wasn’t a big loss to me.

Only other thing to consider is your steering wheel controls. I made sure I bought a Headunit which was compatible so I could keep them.

I do use the steering wheel controls and i know ita expensive to get the wiring adaptors for the other stereos to make them work :(
Im doing a lot to the car and a good sound system is my next step!

Most headunits will be compatible with the steering controls, and if not autoleads or the like nearly always make an adaptor for them to work.

With regards to B&M, if you use your phone a lot in your car, then you can buy an aftermarket headunit with built in bluetooth, this will allow you to use all the functions that your car does as standard.

Personally I only rarely use my phone in the car, if I do its normally when I'm on a long journey, as if I'm just staying local I'm never tht long and can ring them straight back. For when I DO make a long journey, I use a bluetooth headset.

The way I see it, for all of the time I'm in my car, I use my phone about 5% of the time, but I use my stereo 100% of the time so that gets priority.

Car still has all of its original functions and more ;)

The steering controls are not overly expensive.

I got mine from Autoleads on Ebay for £22 I think (was 2 years ago now).

The part number you need it PC99-x89, and also an additional patch lead for your head unit. Should come to no more than £35.

Bearing in mind that not all headunits have the steering wheel adapted facility.

Why does the head unit need changing? I only did it in my MK2 because it didnt have cd player standard.

I get the upgrading speakers just not the changing the headunit. I like it looking flush and built in

ps bit tipsy

The standard head unit has no pre outs and will never send as good a quality signal as an after market one.

By fitting a new headunit your allowing for huge expansions, two or three amps can be connected up without having to bodge around with rear speaker wiring and high line connections.

Also higher spec'd aftermarket units have a lot more EQ settings than just "Treble" "Bass" "Fader" and "Balance". This means you'll have greater control over your music and therefore better sound quality.

And see my pic above regarding flushness, using the facia adaptor it looks as OEM as the original unit (y)
