its only 5 grams per km so not a massive amount. this could be made up by changing some parts around through product development? maybe upgraded ECU and fuel/engine management? could be any number of mechanical components tbh.

:yeahthat:

Even changing engine / gearbox oil or the OEM tyres can make that sort of a difference.

Interesting. Dealer parts dept now says it does have one and is sending the printouts to show! This is against all Fiat and service dept x3 have said! All I can see is a mesh cat under bulkhead, then some pipe, then a cylindrical box about 15-20cm in height and length, then some pipe, then a centre silencer, then pipe .....

Booking myself into nut house on Monday so will let you know how it goes! ...I mean Fiat Direct to see if it has a DPF...;)

Thanks again!

Please Lord let be it those reasons...;)

DPF is practically under the manifold so don't get so hung up about under car pics.

It comes off straight from the turbo look directly down between your coolant tank and engine cover front right corner, honestly you wont have a dpf

The box directly after the turbo on a 1.9 is the pre-cat, it's not the DPF- don't let the lambda/EGT sensor confuse you. Later models and the 1.3 had it moved closer to the turbo to keep it hotter and more efficient, but the early 1.9 had it under the car, just after the front suspension bed.

Is the picture i uploaded a pre-cat then?

Hi D4nnyBoy So the DPF is 'just after the suspension bed', if I read u correctly, on the early ones? Mines registered in July 2008 and is a Series one according to Fiat. My CO2's are lower than a Series Zero, at 149g/km (Series Zero's are 154 g/km).

I have what looks like a cylinder shaped (15-20cm length and height) 'object', just after the front suspension and it is just before the middle silencer box. It has some exhaust pipe of about 20cm in between them. Looking at your picture above, it doesn't look like that. They are two different 'objects', one smaller than the other and not joined together.

Could this be a DPF?

Thanks.:)

Yes.

If there's no thin metal pipes coming out of the main body of the box, running forward with rubber hoses joined to them, then it's probably just a cat/silencer assembly.

A photo would help massively. :)

Here it is! The first picture is of the smaller 'box', which leads into some pipe of about 20-30cm. Then there's the one in second picture, which is the longer cylinder, this connects to the pipe, coming out of the smaller box. Hope that makes sense!
These two 'things', are located AFTER the engine/front wheels:

Could there be a DPF in between the front wheels, or coming down the front of the engine, as I can't see these area's? Or anywhere else for that matter?

Thanks again.

Neither are DPFs, a DPF would be covered in a massive heat shield also (y)

That would be the catalyst, then a normal silencer. No DPF there. :)

Not necessarily- I don't recall any 1.9 DPF's that were shielded. The only differences to normal were extra shielding in the 'tunnel' to stop the heat entering the cabin, and the use of red exhaust rubber mounts to handle the heat.

What exactly is a precat then, i presumed this was the cat as there was nothing else beyond this bar a flexi pipe, to center box

Just that, an extra cat prior to the main cat to improve emissions further. It's possible yours only had that one cat for some reason, although all the ones I ever worked on had a pre and main cat.
