Re: Dreaded cold start :(

My car has exactly the same symtoms, I have replaced the battery and alternator belt, however it has done no good. Ive ordered a MAP sensor, hopefully it will be here tomorrow! I also cleaned the throttle body, I will hopefully fit it tomoz if it is here and will tell you if it works. May not be the exact same problem but it sounds like it!

Re: Dreaded cold start :(

Good news, all seems to be good with the car.

I cleaned the throttle body a few days ago and it made a real difference, so I would say doing that is very beneficial. It made the grinding sound much less noisy and made the car start better.

Today I fitted the MAP sensor, and reset the ECU. Started the car from cold and no noise, and it started perfectly! Also feels nicer to drive, not sure why!

If you have a 1.2 Active this is the MAP sensor you need

Re: Dreaded cold start :(

@Elliot Ross: thats great news!

How long did it take to clean the throttle body? I may try that before ordering a map sensor.

Problem is i have no tools so takes that bit longer to find a time when my mate is free to help..

Re: Dreaded cold start :(

Took about 20 mins to clean the throttle body, but I am no mechanic in fact im rubbish at that sort of thing but even I found it easy. You don't really need any tools to clean the throttle body, only a spanner it is very easy.

Have a look at this
Do this first
then that.

Yep, found one on shop4parts i think it was.

Just started car from running temperature and grinded, so obviously not just cold start. Hopefully map sensor should do the trick though

Thanks again for the help and suggestions

Re: Dreaded cold start :(

Make sure it is the correct one as there are many different types, the one I put a link to is for 1.2 puntos and 1.4 i believe. When i cleaned the throttle body it did help, however the grind was still there, just less often. When I put the MAP sensor on, no problems.
