good thing with chains was they used to start making a racket before they went giving you some warning, but with today's modern cars being all sound proofed you probably wouldn't hear it

No matter what's timing the engine it's always going to wear it's moving all the time. Chains DO last a lot better with low mileage (no rubber to wear & rot)

There's always going to be the human ignorence factor unfortunatly. It would help no end if Fiat revised their service interval!!

Not necessarily. The GM/Vauxhalls using the 1.3 CDTi are suffering chain issues well before 100k, and the 2.2 petrol suffers from chains stretching if serviced with oil that doesn't exactly match the recommendedspecifications. Even Nissan have major issues with theirs.


The real issue here is the water pumps. Without them seizing up, the belts would last fine. ;)
