Hello all,

Does any one know where I can find out the weight of the standard 15" Fiat alloy wheels? They came as standard on my 2007 1.4 8v Active Sport.

I'm looking to get some lightweight 16"/17" alloy wheels and am aware of the gearbox problem fellow Punto owners have suffered when fitting 16/17's to a car that was never specced to have them.

Would like to know how light rims I'm looking at really are compared to standard!

I weighed mine before to settle this argument. They are 16kg each with tyres fitted.

But I fitted 17" alloys and tyres weighing 18.5kg each (although alloys are lighter, they weigh more due to being bigger, wider and obvs the tyres weigh more) and I've had no issues on my 1.2 8v

As an engineer I can think of no legitimate reason why heavier wheels would put any significant extra strain on the gearbox.

As I have said before I believe the failures are to do with the way the cars in question are driven.
