What makes people want to mod their cars? I have been happy enough with my cars as they were save for putting glass rear screen onto the MG to replace the plastic one.

So help me understand why do folk want to do all sorts of wild and wonderful changes to their cars?

Performance upgrades are nice thing to do say for eg putting bigger exhaust on turbo cars are efficient for the whole system. Ok noise is a by product.

I think upgrades are nice but have to be a bit realistic. I drive a company car which is bmw 320d and I always get those numpty in their souped up golf gti trying to race and by the time they get going I am already ahead of them....pointless

Its a hobby an expensive one though in this day n age

4 reasons

1.to increase performance
2.to make it look better
3.to make it sound better
4.to make it look different to the next car in the carpark

To make all the school girls think I'm cool when I drive past them revving my engine

Lol just kidding, pretty much all the reasons stated by everyone else, I like to be different, and have a car which stands out from the rest.

I also enjoy doing it, taking bits off and replacing them with others, and it's great satisfaction (and sometimes amazement) when it still works!

To **** people off with my gold wheels thinking i care what they think :D

Its a hobby really?

Imagine going to an Auto Italia event with Fiat Forum and you park up in your Grande, the six guys n gals next to you pull up in an identical car except maybe a different colour. Car shows would be boring.

A car is either your pride and joy that you care for and look after, or a method of transport that you don't care for. If its the former, you know why we mod them.

My friend once said to me: "If you can park your car up, lock it and walk off without looking back at it, its time to buy a new car as you don't appreciate it no more"

See I guess that I was lucky in that my yellow MGF trophy wasn't that common :D

Subtly done mods can look nice but nothing worse than seeing a car that looks like they stuck every bit of halfords they could find on it.

I once had an ex many years ago with a fiat punto it was a 1.1 with racing stripes, sports exhaust and gearknob. I kind of didn't understand that!

Blue T-Jets aren't that common, but now mine is unique and that makes me happy :)

I can proudly say that I don't have anything from halfords on my car either

Not many people over here in northern ireland know of the t-jet model so when you overtake, try to be overtaken by a boy racer in his 1.2 corsa showing of infront of his girlfriend, sister or mates you know youve the power at your foot to wipe the chavy smile of their faces.

Ive always been into the modified car scene since i was 15-16 and im now just turned 23 so yeah its in the blood. And currently im saving to do the t-jet up and then buy a skyline as a 2nd car for some "private" roundabout fun.
