Hi.

I have a 1.4 16v sporting. I can't get my average mpg higher than 33mpg no matter how I drive it. I get about 320 miles from a full tank. Is this normal for everyone??

 My 1.6 16valve non-turbo Hyundai i30 returns 44Mpg on an almost totally Urban cycle.
Hardly ever get on a dual carriageway or Motorway with it.
I get 330 miles to £40 worth of Unleaded.

Not bad Ffoxy, nearly as much as my GPS mjet which averages 45 when on urban runs only...Gets better as the miles clock up. :)

Bet you miss the Ummmphhhh of the 190 bhp Sporting though eh?

Seriously I do Shroppy... but its mainly the 263ft lbs of torque I miss most, the Hy has what still feels like zero torque, but low gearing means I can easily stick in 5th gear around roundabouts etc...

But 6p / litre lower fuel costs are nice to have though!

Plus its oh so quiet... like a sewing machine, & no EGR, associated gubbins or turbo to stress about. Life is easy (y)

lol i get about 30mpg round town outa it but ive had 46mpg outa her on a long run i suggest you check your plugs aint burnt out :)

that sounds very poor - my 1.4 16v sporting hasn't given me less than 45 mpg combined since I got it 9 months ago (and we've covered 16k since then). Urban we get minimum of 40 mpg, on the longer runs anything up to 52-3 mpg... with the 6-speed box, 70-75mph on the motorway is bang on 3000 rpm, and keeping the engine on or around that rpm seems to be the best way to keep the fuel consumption down. would guess you need to carry out a basic service - plugs, filters, oil change, coolant flush? - and see if that makes a difference...

It seems that the gp is a bit crap when it comes to fuel economy. I have a 1.4 16v dynamic sport and average about 35mpg with mainly town driving but did have it up to 51mpg with a run to chester doing no more than 60mph in 6th gear!
My mate in his civic type r gets about the same mpg!!!
