I have a 2009 1.9mjet with 66k on it. Recently (Last 6 months) the car has been making a thuding noise from the front left side of the car when its a warm day and having done a long trip or been on a really bumpy road. It gets quite loud at times. When the car cools down it dissapears. The car has had the shock's, spring's, track rod ends etc changed about 12 months ago which seemed to solve the problem for a while. Now my local mechanic seems to think the steering rack is duff, despite the thud comming from only one side of the car. Can this be right?

Why are you not taking it to a Fiat dealer, it's under warranty

Possibly may be in 3rd yr which has a 60k limit ?

but he said it's been making this noise for 6 months (which @ 66k over 36 months = 5 months ago @ 55k so under warranty)

Hi. Car had front shocks replaced by the dealer and that seemed to cure the problem for a while. Fiat just don't want to know anymore. Just been quoted £722 to have new steering rack, track rod ends and alignemnt. Seems steep, but 1st quote I have had. My other issue the fact the moise is intermittent. Surley if it was steering rack it would be constant?
Only starts to play up on my commute to work on hot days over 20 degrees or long periods on bumpy roads. Anyone had sililar issues?

What do you mean?

The car's out of warranty as it's over 60k now, Dealer not interested. I refuse to pay for investigtion. I have had a long running battle to get fiat to do anything to the car in the 3rd year.
