Hi Guys,

My GP has recently developed a very irritating noise from the power steering motor. I've searched but I haven't been able to find a fix for this. It only occurs when stationary or at very low speeds below 5mph. There is no loss of power or problems with the actual steering operation just this noise. Its a low grinding noise which is accompanied by a rattle and vibration through the steering wheel and dash.

Its definitely coming from the power steering motor. I removed the fusebox cover/tray to the left of the steering wheel and noticed that when the wheel turns the motor unit moves quite a lot - is this normal?

Here is a video of the movement and noise.

This leads me to believe that there is something loose which is causing the vibration/noise. Its almost as if something is catching/rubbing when the motor unit moves with the turn of the wheel.

This video is a better representation of the noise you hear in the cab when the wheel turns

Any ideas/thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the usual buzzing in certain positions/over-light steering in one direction issue caused by a failing torque/position sensor. I'm surprised you haven't found the previous posts on the issue as its common and comes-up fairly often.

The amount of motor/column movement is normal.

Thanks!

So, if this is the case does it mean a whole new column or just a replacement sensor?
