Hi everyone,

I've somehow managed to lock both the back doors on my Grande Punto- both the emergency lock device AND the child lock at the same time...
Now they won't open from the inside or outside, with the keys in or out :(

Any one know how I can fix this?

I've tried with the key's remote control and the inside button on the dashboard but no luck

:eek:Wow!!!
Didn't think that would actually work for a second but tried it anyway and it worked great first time.
Thank you very much!

Is this a common problem then? The child locks are now off but I still can't open them normally from the outside

Its a faulty door handle mechanism (a common fault). If it's under warranty you can get them both changed for the modified versions for free.

It's an 06 so I doubt I can do anything without paying out.. Do you have any idea how much it would cost? It'll be a little embarrassing having to give the doors a knock every time I have to open them :(

The manual says to twist a little round toggle with a slit (the same as the child lock) where the emergency lock is but there is nothing like it there at all

Isn't it just a tiny plastic retainer clip costing a few pence to replace? The hardest bit is taking the door off and that's easy!

Usually a sign that the car was a hire car and hadn't had a dealer PDI done. PDIs done by Walon were usually a 5 min job and a stamp in the book. And a job like the rear door clips got missed.

Haha sorry! I've just never had success with hitting something to make it work in my entire life, think I'll try it more often :p

No Chris, the original fault was too much clearance between the handle and lever. Fiat fixed this, but then the issue the OP has reported came up due to the lever partially seizing on its pivot. The mechanism was modified again to correct this. ;)

You may get away with pulling it all apart and free-ing it all off, but the issue may come back. It has nothing to do with the child locks/emergency lock.

T14086,

I have the same problem with both locks turned on, I read about your 3 inches down and 3 inches to rear bang to open rear door, but I am wondering- what is your reference point to where you measure the 3 inches from?

I hope you see this two years on! (wishful thinking :/)

hold door handle up with one hand and lightly bang down the door between door and car body underneath the handle area going down (where the striker plate is although you can see it because door is closed) and eventually you will get it.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, I think I understand now, will give it a try tonight and let you know how I get on!
