Guys,

Owner of grande punto sporting 07 reg had it for a year now.

Today i thought i'dd check things after reading several posts from folks.

Checked my bulkhead underneath the break servo and saw rust, gave it a tap and this was the end result..

Not good. What would you recommend doing?

I intend to speak to dealers and tell them about the 8years anti perferasion warranty, im sure this is down to bad design with the water coming over the top of the seal hence sitting in the gap near the break server.

Ive read that over and over, it doesn't really help me considering mines rusted straight through. I guess its going to need some welding

It won't be covered by the anti-perforation warranty 'cause the plate that's rusted isn't actually part of the bodywork. There are multiple posts on the official FIAT forum stating that's been the response from dealers when challenged about this fault.

After fixing the leaking seal I covered the entire rusted area (and the channel where the water was gathering) with silicon sealer (sikaflex) and it's been fine.

If you stop any more water getting to that area by fixing the seal above and then seal over the rust then it shouldn't get any worse.

If the rust looks really bad then I guess it's possible the dampness and rust may have spread back to the brake servo itself, but I haven't heard of anyone saying the servo has been damaged, so far it seems to be affecting only the plate in front. Once the plate is holed the water runs straight down into the footwell.

That was my thinking, I'll check the seals and sort that out in all honesty I havnt had any wet inside I keep checking, i just went out to check things and noticed some rust. Ill have to get it repatched though then I will get some sealant and spread it all over the area

On my old Eper the plate is showing as £11.66 , but it's a fairly big job to fit it as the pedals, brake servo and probably dash have to be removed to access it.

I had a look but couldnt find it. What was you searching under..i hope the whole dash doesn't need to come out, that would be expensive!

It's under "331 Brakes > 33102 Brake hydraulic system > 33102/10 Brake hydraulic system - GD" and then click the little arrow link at the right side in the "C" column along from "POWER BRAKE".

I'm not sure if it's absolutely necessary but someone on the official forum did say that their dealer removed the complete dash in order to replace the plate, hence why I decided to just patch mine up. :)

Rang my local dealer up they want to check things before the send a request for warranty.. worth a try anyway.

I've tried to order the correct part as per photo, part number 55700905 and the guys said that didnt come up on their system.

Not a great start

Sorry Frazer, only read the topic which was 'Rust at brake servo fix', didn't actually read the PDF which is just an explanation as to how it happens and how to prevent it happening, not how to go about resolving it once it's already happened. Hope you get it resolved. (y)

All i can say is please, please

Everyone you need to check it before its to late, Grahams PDF explains how you can prevent it..

Thankfully i dont have no water coming in since i fitted the modified drain pipe however, the damage had already been done.

Ahh thats a great job..

When you say filled the gap in i guess so its flat to the the plate? So no water can gather there in future. Regarding getting at it like you have, did you just pull the soundproofing away or take anything else off?

I guess you've also sealed the box above like you mentioned in your PDF?

Finally what version of sikaflex is that i thought it was white?

Many thanks for the help Graham

Yup the gap is filled so that it's flat or even sloping down slightly towards the front, so no more water can gather there. I just held the padding stuff out the way, siliconed the whole area and then smoothed/shaped it a bit by hand, wearing latex gloves. It's sikaflex 221, got it from ebay.

The Eper DVD I've got is about a year old, says software version 5.30.0 , pricelist 08.02.2010 , got that from ebay too.

Thanks for the post Guys, just checked mine ( 2008 58 plate 1.2 ) and yep its got the 1st signs of corrosion. Might have caught it earlier enough stop anymore damage. BUT CHECK YOUR CARS BULKHEAD GUYS!!!!
