Hi,

My GP has recently gone over the 50k mark, and up until that point i have defended its reliability to all the anti fiatists out there. But since its hit 50, it just seems to be falling apart. Trouble starting up, smell of petrol in cabin, handbrake not holding car unless applied fully and most worrying, a bit of suspension coil falling off on the way to work. Its going into a garage this weekend, but i cant help feeling like it may be time to let it go. Anyone else experience a mass amount of problems at this mileage?

you dont say what car you have:

problems starting is it where it initally starts then dies away on the revs? or just struggles to start

looking at either a MAP sensor fault or a knackered battery at a guess

smell of petrol is most likely the breather hose a £15 hose in the engine bay between the engine rocker box (top) and the air filter

hand brake could be a few things do you have rear discs or drums?

if its drums could be a seized auto adjuster

Broken coil springs is a fact of life on Britain's roads with all the potholes and speed humps general task is outlined here:

Sorry, its a 1.2 active 3dr. Thanks for response, maybe not too serious enough to get rid, but it just has this fragile feel its never had before. Probably just imagining it, i've always loved the car but might be just looking for excuses to buy a new one :). Even the cabin that has been rattle free for 4 years now has buzzes and rattles. I still enjoy looking at the damn thing from my lounge window though :D.

My 1.3mjet 75bhp -
At 3 year/54,000 mile service had a drive shaft rubber and the water pump replaced under warranty. Also the water pipe to the rear washer had split but wasn't covered under the 3rd year warranty.

2 months out of warranty the heater fan packed up. I asked Fiat for some goodwill - still waiting to hear 1 month on but I’ve fixed it myself.

Colour of bumpers to body is now noticeably different - it's a white car cleaned weekly.

Car now 3 years 4 months & 60,000 miles old and drives fine with no rattles and still on original brake pads & shoes - pretty pleased overall.
