Hi,

I'm fully aware Grande or Fiat in general for that matter, power steering issues are nothing uncommon.

But.... My issue seems to be the complete opposite to what you'd normally expect. I've read through thread after thread looking for advice before I posted but nothing.

Rather than my power steering dieing and resulting in it going heavy. It seems to have went unbelievably light, like stupidly light. It feel horrible, theres never been much feedback at all through the wheel anyway but now I even question if the bloody things attached.

Had it up to the local garage on a number of occasions the past week or so and had everything checked. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, only thing they said could need doing with soon is the near side front strut bearing.

Its an 1.4 8v 07 plate Grande. Never had any issues with it before, I'm the second owner. Regularly serviced, current tyres could do with changing but still a good few mil left on them and to be honest thats about as much as I know to say.

Just extremely frustrating collecting it from the garage and being told theres nothing wrong and its just a usual fiat with light steering. But I know its entirely different than it used to be.

Anyone heard of anything similar ? Or even any idea what it could be ?

Cheers

Hi just thought is it not a fault with the city steering, making it stay on all the time even though the dash light and centre console appear to be showing it being off. Have you tryed disconnecting the battery for an hour or so there seems to be many volotage issues that can cause probs with the steering.

My steering was light made a grinding sound and when u put full right lock on and let go of wheel it goes to full left lock on its own got a recon part of ebay £280 +vat takes about two hours to fit just 5 bolts and some screws

Hi thanks for the replys. Yer the city steering being stuck on without the dash light etc would explain it! I'll give disconnecting the battery for a while a go tomorrow and see how it goes.

I've seen the recon power steering units on ebay before yer, not a bad price if I end up need one and they come with a warranty. But still don't want to fork out £280.00 if its not needed. Definitely something to look at though if I do. When I collected it from the garage last week they mentioned if it was that it would be £650.00 haha..... No chance mate.
