Ok, so i'm having an issue with my GP recently, when i slow down to a stop at a junction, traffic light etc, the revs seem to drop to 500rpm, and then either bounces back up to 1000rpm and is fine, or it stalls!

Also when starting it seems to only just 'catch' tickover at 1000rpm, and the revs needle is a little twitchy, only slightly but noticeable.

I'm thinking maybe new spark plugs as it seems to be only around idle it starts to play up.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I had the exact same problem on the wifes 1.2.

it's a build up of oil, grime and dirt on the butterfly flap in the throttle housing. Try removing the air filter and clean the throttle housing with a rag and some carb cleaner. I did ours and it runs as sweet as anything.

Won't be spark plugs if it isn't mis-firing when under load (i.e. driving near stall).

if not that could be a sensor. we never had the engine management light on but it sounds the same problem.

thanx i'll try that, would the breather pipe being blocked cause this problem too? i touched it very gently yesterday and it made the car stall, should it be that sensitive?

try removing the map sensor on the left hand side of the inlet manifold, i can guarantee you its covered with oil/creamy substance, clean it all off with carb cleaner, let it dry and refit. if this fixes it you could really do to remove the inlet manifold and clean it out.

thought the MAP worked on Barometric pressure so any build up wouldn't affect it?

Had the exact same problem with my 06 GP. Almost 100% certain it will be your mapping sensor, had to get mine replaced but it might have just been dirty.

Help from the clever people please!!

SORRY MODD'S --- THIS THREAD SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE END OF MY OTHER THREAD, BUT I'M A TOOL AND DID'T REALISE THE 2 PROBLEMS WERE CONNECTED!!!!

MY APOLOGIES!!

well i've been having problems with the car not being able to idle, a have checked the inlet control valve and its as clean as a whistle, so its not that, however there is a one inch split in what i think is the vacuum hose, would that be the cause?????? if not i'm guessing map sensor.

Best way to find out, repair/replace the split hose. If idling is fixed, there's ya problem, if not it's something else obviously

ok so i mended the split and car is back to normal, turns out that this split is what was causing the car to stall rather that the inlet control valve.

But can anyone just confirm what this pipe is, breather pipe, vacuum hose are they the same thing? lol, just so i can order the new part monday.

All sorted, got the air box off and the butterfly was pretty clean, but turns out there is a split in what looks to me like the breather pipe, i didn't think that it was related to the stalling but turns out it is.

I taped it up with electrical tape(just until i get to fiat to get a replacement) and it sits perfectly at 7500 rpm.

thanx for everyones help, especially andy!

that looks different to my 1.2 so im not sure your probably going to be better off measuring the inner bore of the pipe then going to a local indipendent motor factors and buying a length of oil resistant hose and cutting it to length for that sort of size your looking at £3 a meter most indis will do you shorter lengths if you ask nicely (y)

its only a very short pipe with quite a small diameter.

When I replaced my breather hose I replaced it with this one from Ebay. You will probably get it from a Fiat Dealership as well. They have even put the part number on their listing. I think its the new one that Fiat are now replacing the old one with. You will need some jubilee clips as well to fit it.

yeah thats the part fiat gave me, but thats not the breather hose, its a vacuum hose thats split in the picture. i ordered that correct hose today. still don't know exactly what the hose is called or for tho, only that its a vacuum hose.
