Ive had my car for about a year now. Its a 56 reg and from day one of buying it ive always thought there should be more power coming from the little 77bhp unit. Ive had a few problems with it over the year and its a good job the dealer gave me a years warranty on it. The power steering column needed replacing, the drivers door wouldnt open from the inside, the radiator cracked and last of all just before warranty ran out it started to develop starting problems where it wouldnt start from cold but it took a few goes to get it going.

The last one they at first replaced the temp sensor as that was throwing up a fault code. That didnt work!
So i left it with them for a few more days they then found the problem.
It was the pressure sensor. Since they have replaced it there is a load more power in the car. It accelerates better even at higher speeds.
I have come to the conclusion that they sold me the car with this part at fault all along.

I also replaced the breather hose pipe yesterday as that had split and I was getting the petrol fumes through the vents.

All good. Very happy with the car now. :)
Just need a GSR induction kit now.:D

Just a quick update. The poor steering and rubbish acceleration is back.

I dont know what keeps happening to the car. Its out of the 1 year warranty that the dealer I bought it from now so Im a bit reluctant to take it back to them for checking as I think they will charge me an arm and a leg.

Can a fault in the battery affect the steering and poor acceleration or is there a fault with the spark plugs or fuel injectors? Should I switch to a better quality fuel for a while to clean out the injectors or get some injector cleaning fluid? Can poor injectors affect the electric power steering?

Im ready for getting rid of the car and getting something else but I do think its an excellent car when its working. My dad an ex mechanic and he cant see or feel no fault with it but he doesn't drive it everyday. I just know there is something amiss with it but cant figure it out without expensive diag equipment being used.

Any Help?

When they fitted the new pressure sensor it wasnt as slow as before.

I know its not a fast car, I cant afford it to be.

I know this could be a stupid answer but are you sure there is something wrong?

It could be the placebo effect of having new parts that makes you think its running better. Such as people putting a max power filter on a corsa they think it now is as fast as a lambo when infact it probably has less power.

I sometimes drive my t-jet and think its slow, but then other days i get in it and am suprised by the performance all over again

Why not find someone else with the same car and have a little drag race with them to see if there is a difference?

Just a thought

yes the battery may be a problem.

if it's the original it may be getting a bit past it and the electronics in the car need good a battery.

Just a little update. I put £20 worth of V-Power Shell Petrol in the other day. I still had a little of the old petrol in and that seems to have been used up now. Now that the v-power fuel is coming through the acceleration is better and the steering seems a lot better. It could be just a bit of kidology but i'll see what it is like on my way home tonight. (I drive from Sheffield to Barnsley and back everyday)

I know that it still could be a battery issue as well so im going to get a new battery next week. Any reccomendations on decent batteries?

Im going to book it in for a service as well. 8000 miles since my last one. Just gone over the 31,000 mark.

Thanks for you help.
