...and a bloody fright it gave me too

It seems to have been fixed on with some black sticky stuff. I'm assuming it needs to be stronger then regular double sided tape. Do halfords sell such stuff? Don't want to go the dealer as no doubt the Fiat OEM stuff will be 5 times the price and the car is in the 3rd year warranty so no way will it be covered.

Yes, Halfords sell "Interior Mirror Adhesive Pad's" I think their called (I work there )

Right the sticky pad lasted less than 5 minutes.

Got some Loctite mirror glue which after some fiddling with the metal "button", glue and activating mesh it appears to be holding
