I believe the 1.2 engines are known for drinking a lot of oil. Ours does.

My old mk2a punto drank like an alcoholic, although i had a heavy right foot and doing 500 miles or more a week, no leaks or anything as i checked round the engine and underneath as well every few days, and defenitly wasnt burning oil either because i would have smelt it.

The t-jet is fine though. near due its yearly service, 1st with me owning it.

My 2007 diesel 1.3 uses no oil between changes. It has 90,000+ km on the clock. Only use Selenia oil.

Isn't it a litre from upper to lower mark on the stick?

That's a fair old dollop.

Edit to add...

my Mk2B Punto was 1.2, and it never needed topping up... but it was only 54K miles when I traded it in.

Did you peeps with the heavy oil use not drive them hard enough in the first few hundred miles?

Yeah but the sump is small. From memory 2.6 litres, so if you don't check your oil and you're using 1L in 1000 miles, you can quite easily end up bone dry.

Our 1.2 has consistently used about 500ml every 1000 miles from new - now done 80K miles

Well that's just zany oil usage. So you have to top it up every 5000 miles??

Mine did 15k and the oil went down a bit but not too much the first year I had it (3.5 years old).

A bit late replying - but I check the oil every week and usually top up every week - using Asda oil - now done 83K - early 1.2s eat oil
Got a 1.4 16v and hardly uses oil

I seem to have to top mine up every 2500/3000 miles with about 250ml at a time. Does this sound too much?

Mine ate some for every 3000km, now after the 60000km check(new place).
It has not eaten any for the last 2500 km, and the consumption is way better as well...
The old place where I bought it, they where challenged to put it mildly in the workshop department.
Mine is a 2011 1,2 8v VVT Active.

My 1.2 needs topping up from time to time. I do like to keep the oil level to max. As said above - very small sump capacity
