Re: Frozen Alternator leading to snapped belt

I had the frozen alternator, smoke filled car, belt snap in December 2009.

At the time the dealer seemed mystified, but replaced the belt and the tensioner (as a precaution) under warranty.

The alternator has had no problems since ( i expect it will fail one day out of warranty).

Got the mod drain tube fitted this week 5.65 part and 15.75+vat to push it on

John

Do I really have to read through all that to find out the problem, cause and prevention/fix? Defects the point of a sticky really.

If your car already has the drainage pipe mentioned in posts 3, 4 and 11, then yes.

Correct. Not sure when the fix was introduced. Ridiculous design flaw though. Only a medaterranian (lol sp?) country could pull that off.

Re: Frozen Alternator leading to snapped belt

Thanks for the advice in this thread guys. I've fitted the new drain pipe but when testing with a bottle of water I noticed a lot of water draining out further to the O/S. It's not going on the alternator but the soundproofing/heatproofing at the back of the engine bay is completely soaking, so much so it ripped apart like paper.

Re: Frozen Alternator leading to snapped belt

Is there an online supplier I could get the modified drain sleeve from?
After a cracked alternator casing at just 20k miles, it's time I sort this out. But I really don't want to go to my local Fiat dealer, they usually don't stock anything and they'll just rip me off.

Re: Frozen Alternator leading to snapped belt

I bought the part for my '06 1.3, but can't find where it fits either, although rain doesn't seem to fall on my alternator (I guessed diesels must just be different designs). Unless someone can show where it fits on the 1.3, want my modified hose that's currently sitting there doing nothing? (that's what I say to all the girls )
