Technical Timing Belt Change

Just got my timing belt done with the chaps at Palmer & Phillips. Just want to check, that 'bearing' and 'tensioner' are one of the same thing, as that's what's on my invoice along with the usual.

Yeah its all in the kit i got.

Just got to get someone to fit it now - first guy i rang said the aircon has to be removed to access belt, so i have checked elearn and that is not true as it is easily accessed via wheel off and cover removed from wheel arch.

Not heard of Palmer & Philips before, but I shall definitely check them out. Thanks for the heads up!

Just a follow up really. Got the car going into Palmer & Philips next Wednesday for the cambelt/waterpump change and they've quoted me £289 inc VAT which seems very reasonable (y)

Sorry for slow response, i forgot i'd posted in this thread & only just checked back  Glad you got it done there. They've always been very good i've found, never had to go back because something wasn't done right, which is refreshing in these days of everything being done half-arsed.

Wish i'd got my Stilo done there tbh. I used a main dealer as i had Fiat vouchers to put towards servicing, but i reckon from breaking down my invoice i must've been charged about £450 for the cambelt & waterpump. It somehow all added up ok at the time, but God knows what planet i must've been on when i accepted it

Will be going back to Palmer & Philips for future work i think!

Driving their N reg Punto was an experience I'll never forget! I have arms like Popeye after driving that for the duration of a day.

Haha it's still going is it!? It wouldn't hurt for them to get a Mark2 Punto now, they're not exactly expensive. But i guess the Mk1 is more straighforward to work on & keep running.

Gives a few people abit of shock when they hand the keys over though - my mate nearly died when he took his Alfa 147 in for work & got given that!

The fuel light kept coming on when navigating around a roundabout or taking a corner at speed; and don't get me started on the non-automatic windscreen washers, which squirted water over the top of the car, unless you gauged it correctly! And the clutch...

But I digress, old school courtesy car aside, I was more than happy with the service from Palmer & Phillips, so thanks for the recommendation.

Oh the fuel light & non-auto washers are standard on all Mk1 Punto's - my P reg one was just the same :slayer: Though my clutch and washer aim was all good!

I guess it's things like the old courtesy car that means theyre more reasonably priced than most. There never seems to be a compromise on quality of work, so am glad you found them good (y)

Had my new timing belt kit fitted today and a new water pump at the same time.

Local garage did the work and said it is a pig of a job to do - lucky i agreed a price up front of £90 for the labour.

Kit & Pump £109 plus 3 litres of coolant at £5 each totalled £214.
