Hi..I was searching for this thread on forum so I posted new one.

I have GP 1.4 8v 2008 year. Rear brakes are drums and I would like to change them to discs. Does anyone know what do I need to change and can I only take discs (and everything that I need) from onther GP that have rear discs or I can get it from some other car? And yes I have ABS.

I hope someone will know answer....

Are you using the car for track days? No? The answer is to spend the money on something else. With only 77 horsepower (I have the same) the rear drum brakes are well up to stopping the rear of the car from colliding with the front. Moreover, they only handle 30%- 40% of the stopping.

If you want better brakes, spend the money on softer compound tyres, upgrade the fronts, service the rears and fit softer shoes, or trade the car in.

Given that the grip/stopping is dependant on the downforce times the coefficent of friction between the tyre and the road surface, you can get an equivalent increase in rear-brake stopping power by putting a bag of cement in the boot. Though, drums do not lose heat as quickly as discs, this is of little concern in road driving, unless you tow caravans in the Alps.

You can save the price of the cement by taking an advanced driving course. :)

Hi..thank you on your answer...main reason for chaning to discs is that I plan to put alloys and disc looks better :)...car stops very good and without it....so I wanted to know would it be expensive thing to do...:)
so I will give up on that :)

You're welcome. It's your money though. I have the stock steel wheels on mine, with the plastic wheel trims, and they are good looking I think. I've had expensive alloys on my last cars, and it only takes one kerbing, and they are ruined. So I shrug, and spend the money on petrol or put it in the bank toward my next car.

It looks good, I will fisrt put alloys and new tyres and than I will see how it look....yes it is my money so I will to id only if I find here in Croatia parts for 200 € or less :)

thank you for your answer ;)

The outside of the drums corrodes very quickly. In the summer I may pull the wheels off and give the drums a coat of de-rust, then primer and black paint. At least they won't show then.

I thought to do that too if I do not change to discs...so now it is my primary idea :)...i will paint it in black too so they are not visible. I can do it during winter because here temperatures during winter are from +5 to -2 :)
