i have a 06 mjet sporting with 32000 miles on the clock and i heve recently started to get a ESP ASR hill hold fault on my dash only when starting the car. this lead me to belive the battery or altinator was at fault, had them both checked at my local auto elec garage and they pass with flying colors.

so i had it to a different garage that i use for my ecu faults and he came up with a fault code:c0051 steering angle fault, (this was read on a snap-on reader)

so i rang my local fiat garage and told them of the fault and what the garage said was the steering shaft/colum was at fault which has two sensors on it at the top and bottom and i need to replace it to the tune of about 500 quid!

i am not questioning his knolage or his diagnosis

i was involved in a small acedent wich involved me hitting a roundabout with the drivers front wheel and i had to replace the front strut and tyre but before i had it fixed i had the same fault on my dash i was told it was due to the wheels being strate and the steering wheel being at an angleabout 30-40 degrees to the left hand down.

my questions are:
could this damage by my accedent cause the steering to be slightly out of line with the wheel and has not developed till now ?

could this be fixed with out a full colom / shaft? i.e re align the sensors if they are not aligned properly, replace the sensor and not the hole system

i am sorry for the length of my post but i thought it best to add asmuch detail to avoid confuseion

any quetion and any help will be appreciated

My car did this, the front strut has adjustable camber - when the two sides were set differently it did affected the steering as you mentioned; and threw up the errors you also stated.

Bump! - I've got exactly the same issue. I've used FES / MES and got that error code. I've also noticed my tracking must be out by a fair bit as my tyres are almost bald on the outside and 3-4mm on the middle. So I'm going to get the tracking adjusted and see if the error goes away or perform an alignment using FES.

Jodies tracking is out too and reading around Corsa forums then 80% of the errors go away after having it done.

PS reseting the steering angle to 0 shouldn't need doing once its tracking correctly.
