How long does the heating in other 1.9mjets take to get to a comfortable temperature? I can drive to work, about 10-12 mins non stop driving, and the air is still pretty cool. With the cold mornings coming in not very good.

I know the diesel takes longer to warm up, but should this effect the heater output? My new car, (petrol) is almost instantaneous and is like a sauna by the time I get to work. Eventually the Punto will be very warm, but takes ages!

Am I the only one? Could it be a problem with the resistor/heating matrix?

I have exactly the same issue with my 06 JTD Sporting. It takes about 20 minutes to warm up in crawling city traffic, whereas on motorway trips, hot air is blown in the cabin within 7-8 minutes from start up. My housemate's 55 Panda 1.2 warms up within 2-3 minutes regardless...

Yup I can confirm the heat is terrible, I think it's supposed to be that way.

Used to have an Audi A3 with a broken thermostat (stuck open) that heated up faster.

In my experience of diesel cars they do just take much longer to warm up and My GP I bought last week is no different. I have no idea of the mechanics behind it but petrol cars are much quicker to warm up. My morning commute is around 25 minutes and it just about gets warm half way to work which is town driving all the way. My old 1.5 Clio DCI was the same and my Bosses Volvo V50 D is also similar.

indeed, same for all deisels, there is no way out of it, they are massively more thermally efficient than petrols, so much less heat is generated, my GPS 1.9 takes 10 mins to heat up, my fiat 500 1.2 give (almost) instant heat, takes about 40 seconds of drivign to start heating, its just the nature of the beast ;)

Worth checking that the pollen filter cover is sealed correctly or missing altogether (the retaining clips seem to break very easy).
There is a lot of heat loss when this happens.

what temp should they run at?

with my scangauge plugged in its settling around 85c, is that about right?
