Unhappy Instrument pod failure MJET 130

HI all, Ive recently bought an 08 plate sporting multijet 130, and things started bad and are getting gradually worse.

First we had an intermittent fault where the instrument lights would all light up, and speedo and rev counter would stop working. Next the dashboard failed completely - no lights no gauges no trip computer - the only exception was the engine light came on before start up as normal. All of the functions seem to work, indicators etc but no dials.

Finally, the instrument pod is now dead, engine light included.

The car was put on bosch diagnostics at a bosch service centre and the diagnostic system coulnt find the dashboard (at least the guy didnt charge me - honest garage! Strathclyde Autotune in Hamilton, I'd use them again)

OK, has anyone come across this fault?

The car has a third year dealer warranty which has been transferred into my name, but I do not have a service book for the car, can anyone advise me what the terms and conditions of the warrant are?

If it needs a new instrument cluster, can a second hand one be used?

Any advise is much appreciated

Cheers

Disconnect the battery negative for 10 minutes then reconnect. Try again.

I had the Christmas tree thing happen to me (all lights on, dials dead). Ended up with the body computer being replaced.

You problem is unlikely to be covered by the 3rd year warranty.

Thanks Colin, as a matter of interest where is the body computer on a punto? I'm wondering if it might be getting wet, as the fault has got worse at the same time as really heavy rain.

I'll try the battery disconnect fix.

cheers

Not sure where it is exactly but as T said except for a quick visual check there's not much more you can do without the tools of the trade. Also worth checking the fuse box under the bonnet (next to the battery) as it can get damp with water going down the side of the bonnet.

Re: Instrument pod failure MJET 130

Hi guys, just a wee update - started removing the interior tri to have a good look at the body control module, and found my problem.

A poorly staked earth wire at the bottom of the A post had broken free. New terminal crimped on and the dah is back in business!

Thanks for the help!

(very releived it was something simple)
