Hi all,
Has anyone experienced problems with the electric windows not opening. This is intermittant and can be either window or both. Usually start working after a short time but driver's window was u/s for a whole morning recently. I have tried the fix suggested and unplugged the switches and re-connected which worked but the fault persists. I have found that provided the windows are not completely closed on the stops they never cause a problem. Windows are free in the channels. Dealer can't fix it and only one month warranty left! Any suggestions - Thanks

Dont suppose its a broken wire between the door and the body between the door hinges, if not cud be a fault in the cars body system, and the dealers should be able to fix anything so u should take the car back and tell them you dont want the car back untill its sorted, they cant jus say sorry we cant do it.

Hi I have the same issue !!!!
The last time the window failed, pressing the switch caused a clicking noise from inside the door but the window didn't operate. However this clicking noise didn't occur every-time I pressed the switch. Even with or without the "click" the window still did not operate.
I've tried cleaning up the contacts but it has made no difference.
The next day it worked fine !!
I'm assuming that hearing the click means that it's either a motor or mechanical issue rather than an electrical connection issue...but I cant explain why the click isn't present everytime I press the switch.
Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers

I'm having a problem with the drivers side at the moment. The drivers side switch isn't lighting up, which would suggest it's not getting power. I disconnected/reconnected the block connector on the window switch a few times which got it working once, but hasn't worked since that first time I tried.

I bought a 2nd hand switch block off e-bay, but the drivers side still isn't lighting up or working.

Currently have the door card off and i'm going to get a lend of a multimeter to see if I can track the problem down.

Haven't got to the bottom of it yet. The drivers power supply wire is only showing 10.5v, whereas the passengers side is showing 12.5v. I used both earths and they showed the same voltages. Will use the passengers side power supply wire to test the switch and motor. If they both work I'll have to check all the connections upstream.

I would be checking the door loom carefully especially the door to body connector;)

Yep you guessed it...it's got worse ! Both windows now !
Will check the main door to body connection (thanks for the advice).
Does any one have a cct diagram ?
Cheers
Ron
p.s the lights are on in the switches.

I've got to the bottom of my problem at least. And it is one of the problems that has been suggested before. There are two wires in the body to door loom that are hanging on by a thread (one of them is the drivers window circuit +ve, think the other is an earth), pretty much exactly in the middle between body and door, where the wires fold over when the door closes.

What's the best way to fix this? It's difficult to get at, would it be easier to get a new loom?

@bellcher, do a search in google for "Grande punto elearn iso". When you get that onto disk you will be able to get the diagram for your car. They seem to be slightly different, 3dr v 5dr, rhd v rhd, low v high spec.

I took the door speaker off and was able to unclip the door loom from the inner door to let it pull out much further. Then I was able to pull the rubber back from the loom to further expose the wires. I've temporarily fixed it with ah electrical connector to join the wires, but I'll get some solder during the week to fix it properly,

Hi,

sounds like i have the same problem in my 56 grande punto active 1.2, my passenger window is completely down and the switchs (both driver and p/side) for the passenger window do not function the window.

The light in the switches (both driver and p/side) for the p/side window are not on - this indicates to me that no power getting through - is this a fuse problem?

The switch for the drivers window does work and the light is on.

when the ignition is on and i use the switches for the p/side window, no movement or "clicking" can be heard.

if any one can help or give any ideas it would be much appriecated as i want my car to be secure.

Thanks

Found the correct fuses in the fuse box in engine bay for electic windows. Blown fuse was the cause of my prob.

Because it was old and worn, i have noticed a couple more in same condition that i shall be replacing.

Many thanks Damomca. I was just going to order a new door switch but having read your post I switched the ignition on with the door open. I then wiggled and straightened the black loom between the door and the door frame. At the same time I lifted and held the Drivers O/S door switch to the lower window position. One straighten wiggle and the window lowered. It then was working OK again. It obviously the same broken wires inside the loom as yours. Mine stopped working on the coldest day of the year two weeks ago. Obviously in such temperatures the plastic surrounding each single strand wire in the loom becomes hard and brittle which was probably the final straw in my case.
Now i just have to get out the soldering iron and go exploring.
Can any one advise me as to the intracies of undoing the plastic connector on the loom where it joins the body work? It looks like a press job on one of the tabs then pull but which one, as I dont want to break anything.
I have now read other posts and it appears the above broken cracked wire problem is the most common cause of the window switches not operating. It was probably the cause of 5p00ky's fuse blowing (above) if the cracked wires shorted together. It will presumably happen again.
Thanks again, Mike.

Unplug the connector from the body of the car and pull back the rubber sleeve and let any water out and blow dry, apso there is a blue wire that is prone to break if it has get a wire joiner its like a small pipe you crimp onto each end did the trick for me didnt have the use of my window for weeks until I tackled it hehe.
