Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

Anyway, seems like one need to be carefull !

Shop4Parts would charge 500 pounds for a (complete ?) unit, but you'd easily find much cheaper replacement MOTORS ONLY in Italy.
I personnaly would open it and verify/replace the brushes, that's what from those little motors die ...

Have a look here : http://caserta.bakeca.it/dettaglio/r...-sh2y111805364

Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

If you can get a suitable piece of wood to touch the pump (although anything solid and close to it is usually good enough, the gearbox mount on a Panda often works well enough) you could try the tap test...

Open bonnet. Make sure driver's door is shut.

Using a piece of wood (dowel or piece of broom handle is good) and a small hammer/mallet/similar, give the motor a sharp tap. Not hard, just a tap.

Immediately open the driver's door.

Motor may start up. If it does the brushes are knackered or the dust from them is causing the motor to stick.

If not, retry a few times varying where you tap, closing and opening the driver's door to trigger the motor.

If still nothing, check for wiring/relay issues.

Not conclusive if motor doesn't start up, but a good indicator if it does.

Note: Just a tap means just that.... no liability accepted for heavy handed mistakes.

Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

Have a look at this very interesting thread ... It's the same (or VERY similar) component.

The pump can be replaced without the replacement of the entire Selespeed unit. If they're insisting on replacing the whole unit then go elsewhere.

The pump in itself almost never needs replacement, but its electric motor does !

That's just easy saving around 400 !! You can even go further and replace the brushes 10 or clean their tracks if they're not too worn ( 0 ).
You'll need the parts, a bit of skill, basic tools and a bench vice, that's all it'll take...

Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

I agree with Bernie on this one. You can easily repair the motor and very cheap to do so. Just take it to starter motor/electrical motor repair specialist and you'll be up and running in a few hours.

I would like to add this though, I would recommend you asking the repair person to apply an electrically insulating layer to the inside of the motor housing where the brush heads are. Mine created an internal short where the brush connectors came loose and touched the outer wall. I now have a thin plastic sheet running all the way around the inside of the housing. No more pump issues.

Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

Hiya Folk, Just popping this on here, make what you will of it. I have a 2009 Qubo, had the same warning & gear selection problems come up. My Non Fiat, Fiat specialist, is really really good, the problem was simply the brake light switch, the internals of the switch were ***'d, a common problem apparently, then all kind of false info is fed into the electronic brains, with all kind of false readings/trails. Brake light switch was changed, all in only about 25 or so, and all the problems went away, this was 9/10 month ago, and they have never come back. Not trying to teach folk to suck eggs, and no offence meant...........Should add, a few of us on the Qubo/Fiorino section have had same problems..........all simply solved.
Cheers Qube O.

Re: Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

Must agree with you Qube O !

We're here almost always hammering the same nail: bad grounding ...
Have a look at the diagram and imagine what could happen in case of diyng ground point like G001, G002 or G003; the "brain" of the dualogic would get crazy and just give up (selespeed unavailable, see manual ...). A sensor getting bad like your "int. de freio" (brake switch) would of course bring ther same result.

Very good diagnostic from your independant mechanics !!
