more of a niggle then a problem, its just annoying.

after filling up and locking my cap i turn the key, let the cap click a couple of times, and pull slightly (to confirm its locked) twist the key out and as soon as i take my key out the cap just lifts off with the key?!

any one else have this problem? any ideas for a fix?

oh and it doesn't do it every time just more often then not!

i did take it to the garage (for that and other niggles) but as its 3rd year its not covered under warranty :(

Hi, Yeah i had the same problem about 3weeks ago and it seemed to cure itself. I did exactly the same as you fill up, lock it and turn the key etc etc, but i started with the writing on the cap facing up as if you were reading it and then 2-3 clicks to make sure its locked in place then turn the key. Might cure it for you aswell.

Yup I've had the problem off and on. Tried to explain it to the dealer but it worked fine when they tested it. Happens to me every few months - really annoying when you're trying to be quick at the pump. I found putting out the cap just a smidgen allows it to lock properly - perhaps something has worn.

something could have worn, however mines an 08 and its just done 13k miles and im the only owner i tend to fill it up to the top most of the time.
bit crap if something has worn!

That doesn't make sense to me... or am I reading it wrong?

Should be- Fill up, twist cap until it clicks, turn key clockwise to lock cap, remove key. Turning the key before turning the cap results in the cap being locked in the 'unlocked' position, so it won't stay in place.

Used to see many a Fiat customer do it and query as to whether the cap was faulty.

The fault is when you put the cap back in and try to turn it into the groves it just spins round like you have already turned the key - except you haven't. Probably something wrong with the spring in the cap. Don't really want to have separate keys.

Another common issue was people removing the cap, then turning the key to remove it (therefore locking the cap in the 'unlocked' position). They'd then forget about the key and simply try to twist the cap back on (and it obviously just spins because it's held unlocked). Is this what's happening?

not in my case earthier

the cap locks with the key in it, its as soon as you remove the key the cap comes off.
