I really like the Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 T-Jet 120 Sporting (2007 reg). I also really like the Suzuki Swift Sport (2007 reg).

I want to buy the Punto instead of the Swift but I have one concern which is stopping me. I've looked at so many reviews, both from car websites and Punto owners and one thing that comes up the whole time is the Punto's reliability. It seems to have lots of problems where as the Swift seems to be a lot more reliable and doesn't have many problems.

From reviews from Punto owners, people are saying they've had problems with oil leaks, the radiator, the starter motor, windows, doors etc... and even though it will have a 1 year warranty as I'll get it from an approved Fiat dealer, I don't want to have to take it into the garage every month to get something fixed. The Swift seems to have hardly any problems and looks very reliable.

I hope someone can help to clear this up, maybe the Punto isn't as bad is it's made out to be?

I'm hoping to make the purchase within the next few days.

specifically my grande punto tjet which is up for sale



the grande punto has faults like every other car but tbh im my family and friends circle its one of the most realiable against slk's, focus's, leon's. so dont get sucked to much into the hype because a mark 2 and before yes the punto was bad but now its in a different league!

the swift does handle better imo and ride slightly better also but the style inside and out the power the technology pretty much every other aspect the gps wins, and being that its only really handling it loses on lower it (eibach sportline springs dont worsen the ride either) and its a match.

Funnily enough I was looking a month or so ago for someone else and they were looking at either a swift sport, fiesta st or a panda 100hp (sentimental reasons, prev posts).
I currently have the mjet sporting and quite frankly, taking away all natural bias, I was pleased to be back in my own car after all the test drives.

I found the swift a really, really nice car to drive but compared to the punto it wouldnt stop! I nearly went in to the back of someone twice or thrice in a 30 limit. I dunno if it was just that specimen or a general trait but it def put me off!

We were looking for a 'fun car' and to be honest the most fun I had on the day was the drive back home in my trusty punto

I guess it will be the Punto for me then, which suits me anyway as it's a little cheaper than the Swift and the insurance is cheaper.

There is a lad on here who has a swift sport. The amount of problems he has had with it is comical. But its the same with any car. You get good ones and bad ones.

Forums ain't really a good indicator as people usually sign up because they have problems!

And yes he had nothing but suspension problems wishbone's and bushes wearing out in a comical time. It doesn't seem to be an isolated case either.
