I have a Grande Punto Dyn Sport 08 and am having problems with the brakes.

If I hit the pedal too hard the pedal doesn't initially depress and there seems to be a delay before the car breaks. It's most noticable at higher speeds when doing a sudden (rather than gentle) brake - the pedal becomes very firm and you have to apply more pressure than you would normally. It doesn't seem to depress as far and there is definitely a delay before the car decellerates.

Another issue I'm experiencing is a hissing sound coming from the drivers side of the car (seems to be coming from the far right of the car). It stops whilst accelerating - not sure if the issues are connected?

I took the car into the garage and they couldn't find any problems with the brakes (I hadn't noticed the hissing at the time so didn't mention this). The car is still in warranty but they charged me £65 for the brake check as it's a wear and tear item. The problem seems to be more to do with the pedal though...

Has anyone else experienced these issues or can anyone hazzard a guess at what could cause these problems? I'm going to take it back to the garage again but want to be more prepared this time!

Thanks in advance!
Alex

what did the £65 brake check involve

if its anything like the treatment i had at Stoneacre T it will have been to look at the brakes, Had my GP in when it was new when it went in for the steerer shroud recall mentioned the squealing they stripped and cleaned and filed the leading edge.....

Cue about a year and it went in for top mounts mentioned it as still under 2nd year warranty. went to pick it up they tried to rush me for £50+ vat for looking at the brakes (due to them not been covered :rolleyes: )

Cue one very stropy customer who hadn't authorised the work they had to have that side in bits too to do the strut top mount :bang: in the end and a few "stern and select" words they waived the charge :rolleyes:

The brake check involved them checking the fluids, pads and discs...that was it as far as I know!

I know this doesn't really resolve the 'problem', but if you're having to brake hard as often as it seems, maybe you're driving too fast or too close to the car in front ... just a thought.

Sentiments shared :)

However on a more helpful note;
This to me sounds like a vacuum problem with the Brake Servo. Whilst stationary give the accelarator a little sustained gas then let idle. Can you hear the hiss? If so does it dissapear if you slightly depress the brake pedal ?

Resolution

The garage finally fixed this a few months back - it turned out the break servo was faulty, they replaced it and it's all working fine now.
