Yeah, rev it then let revs drop.

As for gearbox I would do the same but build up speed in a gear, knock it into neutral, bring clutch back up and see if it still whines.

Ok just took it for a small drive to get it warm, warmed up brought upo to speed in 3rd and 4th then taken out of gear clutchpushed in,lutch out, coasting and its still the same noise, park up rev to 3000rpm not the same noise just the normal engine turbo noise?.
Thanks

sounds like a wheel bearing, rear ones are prone to faliure, just because there is no play in them doesnt rule them out, Ive had both mine done and they never had any play in them, fortunatly they are very easy to replace

cant be the gear box if its shill doing it with the clutch in

id bet £20 on it being a rear wheel bearing

:yeahthat: Me too, I'll even bet its the nearside (UK car) The track picks up a little... common & cheap to fix (ish)

bearing I think is £55 quid from Fiat as its the full hub you buy, this makes it really easy to fit though, garage should charge less than an hour I would have thought, I did mine myself
