OK so I've managed to strip the thread on the bolts of the genuine Fiat roof bars I have (made out of cheese I think).

Would it be safer and easier to buy new bars to get new bolts or go out and buy some new bolts? (I'm talking about the bolts that hold the bars to the brackets not the bracket to the body)

What are the bolts?

are they a bolt or are they something more spacific?

the grade of the bolt or socket is imprinted in them normally in the case of a bolt its on the flat of the hex usually 8.8 (high tensile) your ok to go up in the score as they will be stronger but do not go down....

socket caps are usually about 12.9 (higher tensile than a bolt) last thing you want to do is get a cheap sub standard fastener and it to fail and deposit your roof rack and load onto the road and cause an accident

No the T shaped part of it goes into each end of the roof bar, a bracket then attaches to the threaded end via a nut.

I'd rather not bodge and rather not have to pay another £60 just to get some bolts so I'll try the independants.
